Voice from GTIIT in the Boao Forum for Asia Conference 2018

April 11th – Li Jian’ge, Chancellor of GTIIT, attended the sub-forums of “Monetary Policies: Back to Normal” and “Private Education”. Lively atmosphere, Chancellor Li had an in-depth discussion with other invited panelists during the Boao Forum for Asia Conference 2018.

The sub-forum of “Monetary Policies: Back to Normal” held in the morning of April 11th, with John Micklethwait, Editor-in-Chief from Bloomberg, as moderator, was also joined by Yi Gang, Governor of People’s Bank of China, Kazumasa Iwata, Former Deputy Governor of Bank of Japan and President of Japan Center for Economic Research, James Stone, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Plymouth Rock Group and Craig Meller, CEO of AMP. Attendees gave their insightful views about the issues upon monetary policies, curbing adverse effects brought by the policies, deflation in Japan, etc.

In the sub-forum, Governor Yi Gang, on behalf of People’s Bank of China, released exclusive information on further opening the financial market in China. To fulfill the promises given by President Xi Jinping in his keynote speech, People’s Bank of China and financial regulation agencies will promote the openness of financial market in large scale and scope according to the three principles, said Yi.

Besides speaking highly of the prominent progress which can be boiled down to the monetary policies undertaken by People’s Bank of China and the management from Chinese financial agencies in the recent decades, Chancellor Li expressed his complete confidence towards China’s deepening its opening-up in finance sector. Other panelists think highly of China’s monetary policies and measures for opening-up as well.

The sub-forum of “Private Education” was held in the afternoon, Hu Yihu from Phoenix TV as the moderator. Panelists also included Yang Bin, Vice-president of Tsinghua University; Devang Vipin Khakhar, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai; Bai Yunfeng, President of TAL Education Group; Mi Wenjuan, CEO and founder of VIPKID; and Zhou Feng, Senior Vice President of NetEase and CEO of Youdao.

Chancellor Li introduced to panelists the background, mission and vision of GTIIT in the sub-forum of “Private Education”, pointing out that Sino-foreign cooperative education is reforming. “Private education goes with the time and is a symbol of educational opening-up.” GTIIT not only aims to introduce quality foreign educational resources into China, but help students to develop the right outlook on life, world and values as well, Chancellor Li stressed. GTIIT also equips students with life-learning attitudes and habits. Chancellor Li wittedly took the quote from Albert Einstein, “Science without the right outlook on life, world and values is lame, the right outlook on life, world and values without science as guidelines are blind.”

Yang Bin said, private education shall teach students not just knowledge but how to be a man. Teachers are important medium and the basis of education. Public education and private education should complement each other, providing students with right knowledge, and more importantly, right education, Bai Yunfeng believed, since students in the new era have more channels to obtain knowledge and resources. Mi Wenjuan pointed out, private education ought to offer students more diversified and tailored learning models so that students would love to learn. While at the same time, abundant learning resources can better prepare students for their future and further promote the understanding between China and the outside world. Devang Vipin Khakhar introduced the status quo of Indian private education and shared some successful cases.

 The Boao Forum for Asia Conference 2018 is the confluence of different thoughts thereby wisdom. GTIIT will not forget its vision and mission and spare no efforts to develop, as a way to apply the spirits shone in President Xi’s keynote speech. Keeping the beliefs of openness and innovation in mind, GTIIT will develop into a world-class research institute.
