Position Description
The writing and editing consultant will be responsible for providing management, design, implementation and evaluation of communication programs to assist students in various written and oral communication tasks. S/he will be responsible for the delivery of all communication support related services.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Career Competency Research Center, the Communication Consultants will lead a comprehensive program in supporting students and faculties’ various writing tasks:
Work with students, faculty and researchers to ensure document accuracy;
Review written documents for clarity, grammar, spelling, punctuation, content, and style;
Conduct consultation sessions as assigned in any of the three available formats (face-to-face, online, and remote) with students, postdocs and faculty of a variety of experience levels on grad school applications, research manuscripts, grant applications, conference presentations, lab reports, academic assignments, and other technical writings;
Recruit and train Peer Communication Consultants who lead workshops and tutoring undergraduates. Training peer consultants to work productively and sensitively and to protect clients’ confidentiality;
Measures impact and designs improved services. Provides feedback to peer consultants so that they can assume higher leadership roles within the Writing Center across their time at GTIIT;
Assesses unmet needs and leads workgroups, researches best practices in the field, and interacts with GT faculty and administrators to develop new services;
Maintains a collaborative relationship with other Career Competencies Center staff for shared expertise and data across programs.
Required Job Specifications
Required qualification: Master’s degree or above is required (prefer a degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from an internationally recognized university);
Required work experience: 5-7 years’ relevant working experience, prefer 3-5 years working with students on overseas graduate school applications;
International study or work experience is preferred.
