PostTime:5/2/2021

Today, the first "Flipped Open Day" was held at Guangdong Technion Israel Institute of Technology. Instead of the traditional way of promotion, the roles of speakers and audience were exchanged. Students and their parents were playing a key role in asking questions. This "Flipped Open Day" was held online and offline simultaneously, allowing participants to experience the Israeli special education characteristics and feel the unique teaching environment at GTIIT.

Mr. Huang Huiyang, board member of GTIIT, former Deputy Director of Shantou NPC Standing Committee and former Director of Education Bureau of Shantou said that a good university not only could teach students a wealth of professional knowledge, but also cultivate students' comprehensive abilities. "GTIIT is such a university that enables students to enjoy the furthest learning experience with the shortest geographical distance. GTIIT enables students to think in ways with international visions."

In the Q&A section, Prof. Klaus-Dieter Liss from Materials Science and Engineering Program, Prof. Eli Aljadeff from Mathematics with Computer Science Program, Prof. Kong Bo from Chemical Engineering Program, Prof. Yigal Achmon from Biotechnology and Food Engineering Program and Prof. Li Bin from Mechanical Engineering and Robotics Program answered to parents and students' questions about GTIIT’s undergraduate programs curriculum and characteristics.

People may have some stereotypes on the programs related to biotechnology, chemical engineering and materials science. However, GTIIT focuses more on the solid foundation in science and engineering. As a result, students will not only learn the basic subjects like physics and mathematics, but will also be able to further expand their knowledge beyond the limitations of their major.

Prof. Yigal began the class with the theme of "Food Waste to Gold". He handed out glass bottles of food waste collected in the laboratory and explained the "three Rs" (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) of food waste. He led the class to think about how to turn waste into something useful. Prof. Eli combined the games with mathematics, starting from the classic problem of combinatorial mathematics, and explained the logic problem through a board game to arouse people's interest in mathematics. Prof. Klaus introduced the structure, evolution and microstructure design of materials revealed by neutron and synchrotron radiation. He also showed his pictures at various ray sites to introduce his related research results. Prof. Li Bin started his class with the theme of "The Dialogue between Mechanics and Elegance". He held a piece of paper in hand, the paper cannot hold up anything, but as long as the two sides of the paper are bent upwards, it can even hold other objects up. He guided his students to discover the mechanics knowledge that could be found everywhere around us. Prof. Kong Bo associated the "air knife" with the bladeless fan and other diversion devices, and used the hair dryer and other common household appliances in life as examples to arouse people's curiosity to explore science.
