Meet you at 'Israeli Jazz Night'

PostTime:10/14/2018

With blue wind mildly blowing, the drumbeat warmly welcomed guests, and saxophones elegantly sounded. It was a fabulous jazz night! Two famous Israeli bands Hagiga Sextet and Yossi Fine & Ben Aylon provided a feast of jazz music.

The event, recommended by Consulate General of Israel in Guangzhou, is part of the "Israeli Cultural Activities Series", and is funded by the Li Ka Shing Foundation.

Yigal Cohen, PVC and Director General of GTIIT, and Lin Danming, PVC of GTIIT attended the event. PVC Yigal Cohen elaborated on the essence of jazz music and pointed out that the freedom and innovation pursued by jazz and the ideas of challenging convention and exploring curiosity advocated by GTIIT are consistent.

The performance officially kicked off with "Green Lizard" by Hagiga Sextet. As its band name - Hagiga means "celebration" in Hebrew,Hagiga Sextet's performance was cheerful and fun, blending multiple music genres and styles, including North African music and Asian improvisation.

Hagiga Sextet was found in 2001, and the current piano player is only 19 years old. "Music is borderless. When you play, it doesn't matter what's your name, what's your nationality, what's your gender and what's your ideology. It's just two voices to communicate," Alon Farber, founder of Hagiga Sextet said.

Darker the sky, more passionate the people. After a short rest, Ben Aylon's drumbeat suddenly woke audience' nerves up. He started beating the drum with his hand, and the rhythm sped up, faster, stronger, weaker, gradually disappeared, and then suddenly began to stir crazily as blasting stones shooting the sky. Was it African drum or modern drum? Before the audience figured that out, he had had drum sticks holding in his hand which was then followed by the wonderful performance of bass master- Yossi Fine. Covered in red-punk suit with shoulder-length dreadlocks, he acted as a magician, plucking his electric guitar dramatically, as if the audience were cross the blue desert in the Middle East.

The extra space in front of the music turned into a temporary dancing floor. Encouraged by Yossi Fine, everyone flocked to it and timed their steps to the drumbeats! Hagiga Sextet played "Hu Alla" as an encore. GTIITers took pictures with guests excitedly and music lovers even asked Ben Aylon to sign on their drum sticks.
