Teaching Assistant

 

The School

GTIIT Affiliated International School is the first international school for expetriate citizens in Shantou city. Position Summary

The Teacher / Teaching Assistant is responsible for a partial teaching load and also supports other classes as a teaching assistant. The Teacher / TA is expected to work collaboratively with faculty and administration to develop curriculum and school processes during the start-up phase. 

 

Essential Functions

1. Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment:

· Implement curriculum supporting students’ conceptual, competency, and character development;

· Assess student development and performance using a variety of assessment techniques and models; track data and develop groupings as needed to best meet student needs and ensure growth;

· Assist with development, documentation, implementation and refinement of a differentiated, high-level curriculum, including participation in school-wide curriculum alignment and development;

· Ensure teaching approaches reflect and support multiple forms of diversity and are responsive to an international learning community.

2. Collaboration and Participation:

· Set and participate in team goals focused on student growth and supported by growth data, and collaborate with others regularly;

· Participate in professional development sessions;

· Participate in collaborative walkthrough and observation practices; embrace site-based professional development through sharing of best practices;

· When acting as teaching assistant, follow and support the classroom expectations of the lead teacher.

3. Student and Family Support: 

· Proactively involve parents in their child’s education, including positive outreach; communicate regularly on individual student progress outside of reporting periods;

· Establish and maintain routines and use positive and collaborative approaches to student behavior management, effectively approaching student misbehaviors as learning opportunities;

· Hold conferences and meetings to support families, participate in Student Support meetings.

4. Other:

· Monitor and assist students on playgrounds, lunches, and other assigned duty times;

· Participate in special events, including evening events such as, Back to School Night, Parent Conferences, music concerts, and more; 

· Arrange field trips, buses, and special events that enhance the curricular program;

· Assist foreign staff with acclimating to China.

 

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree or above in education or related field.  

· Minimum 1 year of experience of related work. 

· Excellent interpersonal communication skills. 

· English/Mandarin bilingual proficiency. 

· Professional verbal and written communication skills.  

· Comfort with technology including Mac OS, Microsoft Office, Excel and databases. 

· Experience working in an international school setting preferred. 

· Willingness to be part of a Professional Learning Community.
