Abstract

UN figures projecting global population growth of almost 50% since 2000 to 9.5 billion by 2050. In addition to giving rise to an increased demand for food as a result of more mouths to feed, other changes, such as increased incomes and urbanization, will result in changes Foods, A growing global population, combined with factors such as changing socio-demographics, will place increased pressure on the world’s resources to provide not only more but also different types of food. Increased demand for animal-based protein in particular is expected to have a negative environmental impact, generating greenhouse gas emissions, requiring more water and more land. Addressing this will necessitate more sustainable production of existing sources of protein as well as alternative sources for direct human consumption. Also Dietary protein may play an important role in the prevention of metabolic dysfunctions. However, the way in which the protein source affects these dysfunctions has not been clearly established.

.These issues with particular emphasis on chickpea protein will be presented and discus
