Samuel Lopes is a mathematician working in algebra and representation theory. He obtained his PhD in Mathematics in 2003 from the University of Wisconsin—Madison and has since been a professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. He is currently also the director of the Center of Mathematics of the University of Porto (CMUP), one of the best ranked research centers in Mathematics in Portugal. Samuel Lopes is interested in infinite-dimensional associative algebras, especially quantum algebras, their symmetries, representations and applications to other areas. He is also interested in non-associative algebras and their deformations.
