Klaus-Dieter Liss is Technion Full Professor at the Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. He received his PhD in Physics at the RWTH Aachen after he graduated at the TU München in Germany. With over 30 years in neutron and synchrotron radiation, he is a leading pioneer for their applications in materials physics. He has been employed at the Institute Laue Langevin, France; the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility, France; the GKSS and DESY Research Centers Germany; the Japan Atomic Energy Agency; Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization; and is honorary Professor at the University of Wollongong, Australia. Dr. Liss research interests focus on structural changes and transitions in materials under stimulation and extreme conditions. In the field of metallurgy, he advances modern diffraction methods to the investigation of thermo-mechanical processes and developed the Materials Oscilloscope. In-depth diffraction theories are applied with focus to exploit the most modern sources for the understanding of realistic functional and structural materials in an interdisciplinary way. Dr. Klaus-Dieter Liss published over 100 papers in scientific journals and is widely engaged in the scientific community as a National Councilor of Materials Australia and currently holding presidency of its New-South-Wales Branch. He is Fellow of the Australian Institute of Physics and Member of the TMS Phase Transformations Committee. As Editor-In-Chief he created the journal Quantum Beam Science and is member of the Editorial Board of Metals, as well as Advanced Engineering Materials. He has been Guest Editor for MRS Bulletin, June 2016 and for MRS Proceedings in 2012 and 2014.
