On Apr 13, Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) held the campus open day, attracting more than 2000 students and their parents offline and over 60,000 viewers online. Lectures, lab visits and info sessions were provided for the participants to gain a vivid picture of the university.

"62 years ago, I studied at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. Now it's your turn to become students of this fantastic university, GTIIT!" Distinguished Professor Dan Shechtman of the Technion, the 2011 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry, shared his experience on academic journey. He explained his thoughts of "science and engineering", encouraging the students to contribute to China and the whole world through hard working in GTIIT. His speech won huge applause from the audience.

Prof. Lin Danming, Pro-Vice Chancellor of GTIIT gave a lecture titled "Study STEM in an Unlimited Way", highlighting the unique talent training mode of GTIIT. With particular emphasis on discipline foundation, problem-driven teaching, research, and innovation, GTIIT has achieved great results. There are a certain number of GTIIT undergraduates publishing papers as first authors or co-authors in international academic journals. More than 90% of undergraduate graduates were admitted to the world's top 100 universities while those who chose to work were favored by high-tech companies.

Yigal Cohen, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Director General of GTIIT, pointed out that the Technion was famous for its academic achievements and entrepreneurship, with four Nobel Prize winners in the past 20 years. As the China campus of the Technion, GTIIT implements the same academic requirements and cultivation scheme as Haifa campus, aiming at cultivating scientists and engineers for the future. As a parent of a Technion student, Yigal shared his son's inspiring success under the influence of strong innovation and entrepreneurship atmosphere in the Technion.

Mr. Fan Shaobin, Former Deputy Director of the Education Examinations Authority of Guangdong Province, explained the development of Gaokao reform and placed great hopes on GTIIT. He hoped more high school students and parents would come closer to GTIIT after this open day.

Lin Ruochong, a GTIIT Materials and Science Engineering (MSE) Program student from the cohort of 2020, shared his study and research in GTIIT. He has received offers from multiple American renowned universities. In his view, it is the abundant learning resources, advanced teaching arrangements, responsible professors and tight connection with classmates that make "who he is" today. "Thank GTIIT for everything. You made my life!"

Sun Yushan, a GTIIT Chemical Engineering (CE) Program student from the cohort of 2023, was fascinated by the rigorous, free, and humanistic academic atmosphere here. "The teachers encouraged us to ask questions and told us that every question deserved to be discussed and taken seriously, which motivated me more in learning," she said.

Consultation Session at GTIIT South Campus

During the event, GTIIT also set up a "Guangdong Undergraduate Admissions Consultation Session" on the South Campus, inviting more than 30 universities in Guangdong province including Shantou University, South China University of Technology and South China Agricultural University. The session attracted many students and parents to inquire about the programs and enrollment policies of the universities, as well as students' career development after graduation.
