Avinoam Nir is a Professor Emeritus of chemical engineering at the faculty of chemical engineering at the Technion. He received his BSc from Technion and his PhD in chemical engineering from Stanford University in California, USA, in 1973. He was Dean of Students at Technion from 1991 to 1994, and Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering from 1995 to 1996. Professor Nir was a visiting scientist at UPEN, CCNY, UCSB in the US, University of Melbourne in Australia, NUS in Singapore, UNAM in Mexico and the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina. His main research interests are in fluid mechanics and transport phenomena of multi-phase suspensions. His publication record includes many journal papers, book chapters and presentations in scientific conferences.
