Frank Klose

Professor, Material and Science Engineering Program

Frank.Klose@gtiit.edu.cn

Overview

Frank Klose is a Full Professor appointed by the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. He joined GTIIT's Materials and Science Engineering Program in October 2017 where he is establishing the Materials and Quantum Beams - Chinese Center of Excellence. Frank's science group specialises on novel spintronic, multiferroic and magnetic thin film materials with future applications in electronic data storage and sensor technologies. His research group uses advanced neutron and synchrotron scattering methods as major research tools. Frank is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Physics and has published over 100 papers in scientific journals.

Dr Klose was awarded a PhD in physics from The University of Goettingen, Germany in 1993. He served as a postdoctoral fellow at Hahn-Meitner Institute Berlin and at Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago. After an initial professor appointment in Dresden, Germany in 1997, he joined Oak Ridge National Laboratory, USA from 1999 to 2007 where he served as Senior Scientist and Team Leader for Large Scale Structures Science in the Spallation Neutron Source Division. In 2007 he joined the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation in Sydney in a Research Leader position. Besides his scientific activities, Frank managed the Neutron Beam Instruments and Major Capital Projects program at the Bragg Institute. This group of ~40 scientists, engineers, technicians and administrative staff delivered seven additional neutron instruments and several other major instrumentation projects with a budget of A$65 million. From 2014, Frank lectured physics and materials science as visiting professor at The City University of Hong Kong.
