Position Description
The workplace health and safety (WHS) officer is responsible for ensuring that safety policies and practices are adopted and followed. The incumbent will help develop, implement and review policies and procedures that minimize operational losses, WHS problems, accidents and injuries and conduct safety inspections. S/he will also train employees in safe working procedures, record and investigate injuries, and report on safety performance.
Duties and Responsibilities
In general, the incumbent shall be responsible for:
· Gain an understanding of the operations of the business and the hazards and risks involved.
· Compile procedures and coach for safe work environment.
· Compile procedures and coach for safe accommodation for staff and students.
· Compile procedures and coach regarding plant and structures.
· Ensure that facilities for the welfare of workers are adequate.
· Notify and record of workplace incidents.
· Ensure compliance with the requirements under the work health and safety regulation.
· Create and enforce effective systems in place for monitoring the health of workers and workplace conditions.
· Ensure processes are verified, monitored and reviewed.
· Be active member in the WHS Committee.
In lab environment, the incumbent shall be responsible for:
· Compile procedures and coach for safe behavior in Chemistry labs.
· Compile procedures and coach for removal of hazardous materials.
· Be in-charged of coordination and removal of hazardous materials.
· Compile procedures and coach for replacement of gases.
· Be in-charged on coordination of replacement of gases.
· Compile procedures and coach for cleaning of chemicals.
· Compile procedures and coach for evacuation procedures in GTIIT.
· Compile procedures and coach for basement setup in case of national emergency.
· Compile templates of incidents reports and fill out when occurs.
· Identify potential risks (including their level) and compile Safe Work Procedure (SWP) to suit.
Required Job Specifications
· Required qualification: Bachelor degree or above in building or Business Management or in a scientific/technical discipline or a related field
· Required experience: At least five-year work experience in WHS and Quality Assurance Management
Required Job Competencies
· Communication skills (English & Chinese): Fluent in written and spoken English and Chinese
· Excellent interpersonal skills
