Position Description  

The Biotechnology and Food Engineering program at Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology is establishing a Pilot Plant for small-scale manufacture and testing of food products, and for teaching and research in process design and product development. The facility will serve the needs for undergraduate teaching; basic and applied academic research; and industry collaboration, consultation and training. The overall Pilot Plant development includes associated laboratories such as for packaging, analysis, and sensory testing.

We are seeking a dynamic, creative, problem-solver with relevant industry experience in process engineering to manage the development and day-to-day operations of this facility.

Position Responsibilities

During establishment, the lab manager/technician is responsible for:

1.Coordinating the activities (purchase, installation and commissioning) among academic team, construction team, suppliers

2.Accepting, positioning and installing all purchased equipment at GTIIT pilot lab and adjacent labs (e.g. packaging lab, analytical lab)

3.Receiving the training from the suppliers, writing standard operating instructions

4.Conducting and approving acceptance tests

5.Establishing operating and maintenance instructions for each item of equipment

6.Implementing safety management protocols for ongoing safe operation of the equipment and facility

During operation, the lab technician/manager is responsible for:

1. Operating the pilot plant during teaching activities of GTIIT as required by the academic team

2. Providing technical support related to research activities occurring in the pilot plant

3. Maintaining the equipment and overall facility

4. Supporting external R&D and training activities by coordinating with users, providing necessary access to equipment, and carrying out related administrative tasks

5. Safety management of the facility

Requirements

1. Experience as process engineer in Food/ chemical/ pharmaceutical industry

2. B.Sc. / M.Sc. in a relevant science or engineering discipline

3. Experience in implementing new process and equipment

4. Ability to communicate and liaise with external partners

5. Fluent English: speaking, reading and writing
