Industry Conference - Partners in Biotechnology & Food Engineering

Time: 28th November

Venue: GTIIT, Shantou, Guangdong, China

Language: English

Comprising a day for academia and a day for industry, GTIIT will play host to an exciting and international collection of distinguished keynote speakers in a symposium and industry forum on its state-of-the-art campus in Shantou, China. The conference will be chaired by Professor Ka Yin Leung and Assistant Professor Udi Sarig. Speakers will include leading Israeli scientists in an array of disciplines and, in fact, all speakers are leaders in their fields and at the forefront of current research.

As GTIIT is an international university within China, all speakers will present in English, to enable scientists and students from all around the world to share and discuss their key findings and current research advances on an international platform. Highlights will include, Professor Vladimir Mironov and his 3D organ tissue printing, which recently made waves on Chinese social media, and a masterclass by Dr. Alejandro Marangoni, whose contribution to the field of Food Science is unparalleled.

The second day of the conference – Partners in Biotechnology & Food Engineering” - will be dedicated to industry. Chaired by Associate Professor Ashok Patel and Dr. Markus Walkling Ribeiro, the workshop will offer an excellent opportunity to connect, network, and form future collaborations with both overseas and Chinese partners. The Chaoshan people are renowned for their entrepreneurship, and GTIIT’s parent university, the Technion – Israel, consistently ranks among the world’s top science and technology universities. Therefore, GTIIT is uniquely positioned in the new economic growth hub of Shantou to harness both the local entrepreneurial spirit and the talent of the Technion – Israel to foster new collaborations that will keep GTIIT and the city at the forefront of technological, biotech and food engineering advances.

It is these research areas, in which GTIIT excels, that the conference is intended to showcase: “Our graduates will lead the way in the coming years to tackling the most urgent issues of human society, such as: food security, life extension without hampering wellbeing, environmental protection, renewable energy production and more.” Prof. Ka Yin Leung.

About GTIIT

Set at the foot of the picturesque Sangpu hills, the university is proud to have made its home in the Chinese harbor city of Shantou. The conference not only offers a chance to have a finger on the pulse of current biotech science and food engineering, but to experience the harbour city of Shantou, and the best of Chaoshan culture: its food, its Linglan style architecture and its tea ceremonies, which make up just a few elements of its two-thousand-year-old history.

How to apply

In order to encourage as wide a participation as possible, GTIIT is offering a travel stipend of 800RMB to graduate students wishing to submit an abstract. There is still time to register and submit – all proposals must be relevant to one of the four key themes and must be written in English – and there is still time to apply for the stipend. Details of the stipend can be found here: http://www.meetbfe.com/col.jsp?id=121, and more details about the conference can be found on its dedicated website: http://www.meetbfe.com/.
