Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) held an opening ceremony to welcome new students for the academic year 2022-23 this morning. 

Based on the epidemic prevention and control situation, the event was launched both offline, with all freshpersons attending at the auditorium, and online, with parents watching the stream in classrooms.

Leaders and guests attending the ceremony include: Prof. Gong Xingao, Chancellor of GTIIT and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences; Prof. David Gershoni, Vice Chancellor of GTIIT; Mr. Huang Huiyang, member of GTIIT Board and former Vice Director of Standing Committee of Shantou Municipal People's Congress; Prof. Wang Quan, member of GTIIT Board and Executive Vice-President of Shantou University; and representatives of faculty and staff of GTIIT. The ceremony was presided by Prof. Lin Danming, Pro-Vice Chancellor of GTIIT.

Prof. David Gershoni, Vice Chancellor of GTIIT encouraged students to think out of the box and be open to different ways of thinking. “GTIIT is a place with a strong international atmosphere where you will experience the exchange of different culture. We hope that you can make good use of all the resources to explore your talents in study.”

During the event, a sharing session was conducted by two students. GTIIT student representative Huang Haojun (Cohort 2020) shared with participants his fulfilling life with academic and extracurricular experience and gave new students suggestions: to lay a solid foundation, to think independently, to develop themselves all-around, and to catch chances towards their dreams.

“We are all thrilled because we have opened a new chapter of our life!” Another sharing was given by Zhang Liwen, the new student representative. He hoped all of them could adapt to English-medium teaching, develop new hobbies and explore the unknown in the next four years.

“GTIIT is a place where you can peek into your bright future ahead with your naked eyes.” Prof. Gong Xingao, Chancellor of GTIIT expressed his expectations to the new students, hoping that they can practice self-management, complete the transition from high school to university, make full use of the valuable educational resources to develop their international perspective and humanistic outlook, as well as strive forward confidently without fear of failure.

Freshmen will begin their two-month preparatory semester soon. Since August 7th, a series of events, including program introduction, IT training, EHS training, orientations, and fire drill are organized to help the students know more about GTIIT and better adapt to university life.
