In order to solve the problem of being blocked from studying abroad due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) continued to carry out the Independent Student Recruitment Program this year, to provide enrollment quotas for students who originally planned to study abroad, in accordance with relevant requirements by the Ministry of Education.

On September 21st, GTIIT held a welcome meeting for independent recruitment students to help them better adapt to the life in GTIIT campus. 100 freshmen admitted via independent recruitment attended the meeting with their parents witnessing online. They actively consulted with the GTIIT faculty and staff to prepare themselves for the coming four-year study and life.

Prof. Lin Danming, Pro-Vice Chancellor of GTIIT delivered the opening speech. “Congratulations to you all! You have undergone a rigorous selection to enter GTIIT!” Prof. Lin gave a warm welcome to the young students. He introduced the history, faculty, course features and other aspects of the University, and encouraged the students to study hard with the top and rich resources for research in GTIIT. “I hope everyone of you can shoulder the responsibilities endowed by the society, practice the university motto “dream it, do it”, hold a firm goal and contribute yourselves to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation!” Prof. Lin emphasized.

Leaders from Undergraduate Studies Office, Department of Student Affairs and Career & Learning Center then provided a detailed introduction to the regulations and resources provided by GTIIT, in order to enable the freshmen to learn more about this place.

GTIIT received a record-high number of applications this year and has seen an increasing number of applicants since 2020, the first year when GTIIT organized independent recruitment. In the 2022 season, 100 students were enrolled with the enrollment ratio approaching 10:1. Students are mainly from Guangdong Province, Zhejiang Province, Anhui Province, Jiangsu Province, Shanghai and other provinces and cities, and the male to female ratio is around 7 to 3.

GTIIT’s independent recruitment accepts applications on a rolling basis. Following the same criteria as the Technion, offers will be given after reviews, examinations and interviews by the Dean of the Undergraduate Studies and Program Heads. Most of the applicants this year held the admission letters from the top universities and high scores in the standardized tests.

The 2022 Independent Recruitment Students will start their journey from now on. The international campus with beautiful scenery will be home for them in the following four years.
