The Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Materials and Technologies for Energy Conversion (MATEC) successfully passed the acceptance review conducted by the Guangdong Department of Science and Technology. The reviewers were impressed by the achievements that MATEC made in the first 3-year construction period. 

MATEC Academic Committee Meeting 

MATEC was established in 2022. This is GTIIT's first provincial level research platform being recognized by the Guangdong Provincial government. It focuses on exploring the frontier scientific problems of energy materials, developing core technologies of energy conversion, solving the problems of carbon peaking and carbon neutral, and providing intellectual and technical support for Guangdong Province and even the national new energy material industry.

The Nobel laureate, provincial leaders, and corporate executives visited MATEC

In the construction period (Jan. 1, 2022 – Dec. 31, 2024), the MATEC members supervising 164 graduate students and 100+ PDF/RA carried out 97 projects of 63.12M RMB in total. KPI achievements are as follows. 307 papers and 1 book were published among which nearly 30 papers on top journals, 27 domestic invention patents and 3 international patents were applied among which 12 domestic patents and 3 international patents were issued. 33 talents were recruited and introduced into MATEC, 105 talents were trained, 22 talent projects were obtained. Focusing on three research directions—electro-mechanical conversion and technologies, energy storage and technologies, and catalytic conversion and technologies—MATEC achieved three representative research outcomes. Additionally, 1 award for the most valuable investment at the China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Achievements Fair was received, 4 startup companies were incubated, 14 industry-university-research cooperation projects were carried out, and 1 technology transfer agreement was signed. 8 technical trainings, 8 domestic and international conferences were organized, and 83 presentations were delivered in domestic and international conferences. 31 testing and characterization services were provided to external customers. 3,054 square meters of new scientific research space and 420 sets of advanced equipment were added. MATEC successfully fulfilled all KPIs.
