International Symposium on Environmental Sustainability 2025

On October 17-18, the International Symposium on Environmental Sustainability, organized by the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering at Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT), was successfully held at the South Campus. The event attracted nearly 70 experts, scholars, and graduate students from universities both in China and abroad.

Scholars from institutions such as Sun Yat-sen University, Southern University of Science and Technology, Donghua University, Beijing Forestry University, Dalian University of Technology, Nanyang Technological University, University of Rostock, Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, and GTIIT gathered to engage in in-depth exchanges on cutting-edge topics including environmental science and engineering, biotechnology, membrane technology, and seawater desalination. The strategic directions and practical pathways for sustainable development were explored and discussed at the symposium.

In the opening address, Prof. Eli Aljadeff, Acting Vice Chancellor and Head of the Mathematics with Computer Science Department of GTIIT, emphasized that the symposium aimed to build a high-quality platform for scholars in the environmental field. He expressed his hope that participants would spark new ideas and gain fresh insights through intellectual exchange.

Prof. Alexander Furman, Head of Environmental Science and Engineering Department of GTIIT, introduced the symposium's theme and the research directions of the attendees. He stressed that this event would bring together diverse perspectives, promote interdisciplinary dialogue, and contribute wisdom to tackling global environmental issues.

Over the two-day event, nearly 30 academic presentations covered multiple frontier research areas such as water treatment and resource recovery, soil and air pollution control, environmental materials and microbial technology, sustainable solid waste management, and low-carbon technologies and system optimization. Each presentation was followed by a lively Q&A session, sparking extensive and in-depth discussions. Participants actively shared their latest research findings and jointly explored diverse pathways and innovative solutions for sustainable development.



"We look forward to meeting again and welcome more colleagues to join us." Prof Ori Lahav, Dean of Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, noted that the symposium served not only as a platform to present research achievements, but also as a valuable opportunity to gain insights from different academic perspectives and inspire future studies.
