GTIIT is now officially included in the Technion's exchange agreements. This means that students at GTIIT will also have the opportunity to take one or more semesters abroad at a Technion partner university, where the curriculum could be recognized as part of their degree at GTIIT and the Technion. This enables students to expand their horizons and academic experience.
Which universities can the students apply for exchanges?
Technion will include GTIIT into the exchange networks gradually. At the first stage, GTIIT aims to facilitate student exchanges with 26 world-renowned universities. They are Carnegie Mellon University, Cornell University, Johns Hopkins University, McGill University, University of British Columbia, University of Toronto, Berlin University of Technology, Munich University of Technology, Karlsruhe Instituteof Technology, University of Melbourne, Monash University, National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and so on. GTIIT is discussing the details of student exchanges agreements and specifying the measures to proceed with such cooperation with these universities. The purpose is for GTIIT and the exchange universities to send students to both sides and to recognize course credits mutually without paying extra tuition fees at the host university.
When does the exchange program begin?
GTIIT plans to promote the exchange programs to the students in the winter semester of 2019. The first batch of students are expected to begin their exchange study in the spring semester of 2020, when they will spend one semester or a year at the partner university.
What is the entry requirement for the exchange programs?
Students applying for an exchange program must have completed at least four semesters of studies at GTIIT and they must have a cumulative GPA of 80 or above. In addition to attending an interview at GTIIT, the students must also demonstrate sufficient language proficiency to fulfill the host university’s requirements. Students will consult with the Undergraduate Studies Department and their program leader at GTIIT to make sure that the courses they take at the host university can be recognized for credit at GTIIT. Students who have met the requirements at GTIIT will be nominated but the host university will decide if the student gets the exchange opportunity.
Do the students need to pay extra tuition fee for the exchange period?
No, students will pay their normal tuition and other study-related fees to GTIIT while studying aboard as an exchange student. They do not have to pay any tuition fee at the host university. However, they are responsible for any additional expenses that may arise, including visa application fees, travel expenses, housing, cost of living and any other expenses required by the host university.
The exchange programs will provide students with an opportunity to broaden their horizons, allowing students to experience the teaching environment and academic atmosphere at the top universities abroad. It also gives the universities a platform to share academic and education resources.
The exchange programs also allow international students to exchange to GTIIT, which will add diversity and internationalization to the GTIIT campus.
