As the opening of spring semester has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak, GTIIT has officially launched the phase 1 remote teaching period since Mar 5. Except for the lab courses, which are not applicable to the remote teaching, a total of 22 courses have been offered.
GTIIT introduces the excellent academic tradition of "L & T" from the Technion, a teaching model which fully exploit the benefits of Lecture(L) and Tutorial(T). All of the remote teaching courses, except for some theory courses, apply this model. Q&A time is also provided as usual for each course. Teachers answer questions through Zoom or email.
To help students better digest knowledge, Prof. Yoav Eichen equipped each student group student assistants. "In each course, we will have two Chinese student assistants to help students fully understand the course content."
After more than two weeks' remote teaching, how do students think of it?
Great! Compared to offline studying, online teaching is more flexible, you can pause and replay the videos at any time. This helps a lot while taking a difficult lesson, for example, the Introduction To The Theory of Groups. Sometimes I had to take down everything in class and try to understand it after the lesson. But now, I can pause the video, go to check the textbook or think for a while, then continue my study. As for the Tutorial, I can do the exercise before I listen to the explanation, which helps me to have a better understanding of the knowledge.

For me, the remote teaching has its pros and cons. The advantage is that you can replay, pause or fast-forward the video flexibly. However, without fixed schooltime, it is a self-discipline challenge for me. After receiving the notification of postponement of new semester, I chose to live alone in order to eliminate external interference and focus more on study. By doing this, I improved my cooking skill, which is essential while studying aboard. Also, while meeting any problem about the course, I always discuss with classmates or turn to my teachers for help after class.

With a great sense of responsibility, teachers from GTIIT carefully record and post the videos online punctually and discuss questions with us during Office Hour. Some also share daily learning sections and kindly remind us to finish the tasks. Most courses at GTIIT are difficult. If you really want to learn something, you should be disciplined. Honestly, I miss the campus life a lot since the remote teaching is lack of proper interaction and requires high-speed Internet. I hope the epidemic will be over soon and look forward to meeting you all.

Two of my specialized courses are presented online. I wasn't that accustomed to it at first because I am more focused and productive when taking
remote courses. Also, when I meet any question, I can directly ask the
teachers at campus. But things go well - thanks to teachers from IT
department, we are free to ask questions through emails or the Zoom
platform (the network condition might affect a bit efficiency, but
that's ok). As a Wuhan resident, I have stayed at home for 60 days.
Although my daily life has been affected, I think it's worthy to take
the remote courses, which also contributes to prevent the spread of the
novel coronavirus. I am extremely grateful to people for all
contributions for this city during the past days.
