Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences Gong Xingao assumed the role of Chancellor of Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) in April. He is the first “Academician Chancellor” among universities in the east, west and north of Guangdong Province. Prof. David Gershoni, a renowned professor of the Technion and former director of the Precision Science Department of the Israel Science Foundation, joined GTIIT as the Vice Chancellor. Prof. Wayne D. Kaplan, former Executive Vice President of the Technion, also joined GTIIT as Pro-Vice Chancellor for academic affairs.

Approved by the Ministry of Education, GTIIT opened Mechanical Engineering and Robotics (MER) program, which enrols students from 2021.
At present, GTIIT has opened five undergraduate programs: Chemical Engineering program, Biotechnology and Food Engineering program, Materials Science and Engineering program, Mathematics with Computer Science program and Mechanical Engineering and Robotics program.

The artificial fat developing company (YaliBio), of which Dr. Xu Peng is the co-founder and the chief scientific advisor, accomplished its pre-seed stage funding.
The team of three students from Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology won the third prize with the "locust protein extraction" project in the 8th “Jinwan Cup Creating Youth" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, in which the percentage of doctors and high-level talents accounted for more than 30% of the total participants.
