GTIIT Environmental Protection Project

PostTime:1/28/2022

Since the summer holiday of 2021, Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) has set up an environmental protection project named "3R", integrating the concepts of recycle, reuse and reduce. It aims to make GTers aware of the environment, conserve resources, and live a green life.

The project was founded by GTIIT Student Affairs Department and Celin Katty Chen Wu, an international student of the Class of 2023, and a team named "Rebuilders" was formed to organize a series of activities, such as "Waste Sorting Start from Me", "Make Trash Cans for Plastic Bottles" and "Keep Clean and Go Green".

Waste Sorting Start from Me

In November 2021, the Rebuilders launched its first activity, popularizing garbage sorting knowledge among teachers and students in the form of games on campus. Participants put the cards into the four trash can props of kitchen waste, hazardous waste, recyclable waste and other waste according to their own judgment, and the staff gave on-site guidance. During the game, many students found that their accustomed sorting method was not accurate, and said that they learned a lot of practical knowledge.

Make Trash Cans for Plastic Bottles

In December 2021, two trash cans, each about one-meter high, were made by students with the support of GTIIT Operations Department and have been placed beside the basketball court and outside the canteen respectively. The accumulated plastic bottles in trash cans allows us to understand the amount of garbage we produce on a daily basis. The team will recycle some of them for reuse.

Keep Clean and Go Green

In December 2021, students and staff volunteers collected trash around the campus and the Longquan Hill. They were surprised by the amount of trash around us, and after the activity, a small discussion was held on the top of the hill, summarizing what they learned from picking up the trash.
