On April 14, Ji-Dong Gu, professor of GTIIT’s Environmental Science and Engineering research group, was selected as the Elsevier 2021 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers.
The ranking uses Scopus, a global authoritative citation and index database, as a statistical source of research achievements of Chinese scholars, and adopts the method developed by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. In 2021, 4,701 scholars from 523 universities, enterprises, and research institutions were listed, covering 10 disciplines and 84 first-level disciplines of the Ministry of Education. 125 scholars in the field of environmental science and engineering were selected.

According to Scopus, Prof. Gu has published 523 documents from 1994 to 2021, being cited for 10,330 documents 15,424 times, with an h-index of 64. The number of citations showed an upward trend, with a peak of 2280 citations in 2021.

Prof. Gu worked in the Microbial Ecology Laboratory of Harvard University between 1993 and 1998 and then joined The University of Hong Kong in 1999 as an assistant professor and then in 2004 promoted to associate professor. He takes the current position with Guangdong Technion Israel Institute of Technology in the summer of 2020. He is the Editor-in-Chief for International Biodeterioration & Biodegradation, and an Associate Editor for Ecotoxicology, and Journal of Polymers and the Environment.
