In order to carry forward the spirit of sports, enrich the life of the campus, convey the volunteer spirit of the Asian Youth Games, and further create an atmosphere of national sports, on April 9, Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology held the activities of GT track campus run and the recruitment of volunteers of the Asian Youth Games on South Campus. 

In this warm spring, it’s time to participate in running. Thus this activity was highly welcomed by students, faculty and staff, and the number of participants was up to almost one hundred. Prof. Lin Danming, Pro-Vice Chancellor of GTIIT; Mr. Eran Gal-Or, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Director General of GTIIT; and Dr. Fabian Rios, Head of GTIIT sports unit, delivered welcoming speeches in the opening ceremony. They showed their heartfelt blessing to this running activity and the approaching Asian Youth Games.

“Hope today’s good weather can bring you a good feeling. Every participant, good luck!” With Fabian’s declaration, the game started.

This running activity includes three projects: 2km family run, 5km and 10km mixed run for men and women, which was designed for different participants. Under the blue sky and white clouds, on the brand-new track, parents who participated in the family run held the hand of their children and finished the match together; in the mixed run, the contestants did their best. The 3rd Asian Youth Games volunteer recruitment activity was held near the track. Many contestants went to the recruitment booth after the competition, signed up to become Asian Youth Game volunteers, and actively provided their help.

The champion of 10km run, Mr. Eran Gal-Or shared his feeling when running, “Running in general makes me relaxed. It is the time when I can keep my mind off the daily interruptions and check how much I can push myself to improve, to compete. I am a much nicer person when I do enough running.” As one of the main organizers of this running activity, he also explained the meaning of this activity, “This is a sports event in Spring. We believe it can help us to bring the spirit of sport to the mind of the GTIIT community and also to enhance social life on campus, in a time where travelling is very restricted.”

As a university with distinctive international characteristics, Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology is also the only university in Shantou that teaches in English, and it actively provides high-quality volunteer services for the 3rd Asian Youth Games. This activity attracted more than 100 Chinese and overseas teachers and students to sign up as volunteers. In the future, the university will continue to guide the teachers and students to fully participate in and serve the Games.
