GTIIT has two programs on the list of "provincial first-class undergraduate program construction sites" in 2021

PostTime:6/14/2022

Recently, the General Office of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China announced the list of "provincial first-class undergraduate program construction sites" in 2021. Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) has two programs on this list. They are:

Biotechnology and Food Engineering

Chemical Engineering

Up to now, the first three programs opened in GTIIT have all been selected as provincial first-class undergraduate program construction sites in Guangdong Province.

What is a provincial first-class undergraduate program construction site in Guangdong?

In April 2019, the General Office of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China issued the "Notice on the Implementation of the "Double Ten Thousand Plan" for the Construction of First-Class Undergraduate Programs", which aims to comprehensively revitalize undergraduate education, improve the talent training capabilities of universities, and realize the development of higher education. According to the notice, the Ministry of Education will set up about 10,000 national-level first-class undergraduate programs and about 10,000 provincial-level first-class undergraduate programs during 2019-2021.

Being selected as provincial-level first-class undergraduate programs construction sites not only demonstrate the comprehensive strength of the university, but also have a very important significance for the cultivation of professional talents and the organic connection of education, talents, and industry, and the innovation chain.

Introduction

GTIIT Biotechnology and Food Engineering Program

This is one of the few international programs that combine engineering technology and life science, aiming to train excellent engineers and scientific talents in both biotechnology and food engineering.

The four-year program consists of a basket of core courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry and computers, which together with advanced engineering courses, provides the background for integrating engineering studies into advanced subjects of life sciences and biotechnology. The remainder of the program is based on three areas: biotechnology; engineering and technology for food engineering; and life and food sciences.

Graduates of this program are capable of working in both biotechnology and food engineering, and can be widely employed in medical, agricultural, food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and environmental protection industries and related government agencies.

Graduates can choose to pursue further studies in areas such as biotechnology, microbiology, molecular biology, food engineering and technology, tissue engineering, biochemistry and nutrition, genetics, animal and plant science, packaging, enzymology, encapsulation, biopolymers, protein engineering, and computational biology.

GTIIT Chemical Engineering Program

Positioned at advanced international standards, this program combines chemical knowledge, biochemical knowledge and engineering tools.

The curriculum covers traditional basic chemistry and engineering content, combined with advanced theories and tools, such as nanotechnology, biomedical engineering, desalination and new energy, etc. It aims to cultivate high-level engineering-oriented scientific and technological talents with the solid knowledge base, broad international vision and creative thinking.

Students in this program will be able to flexibly use basic scientific knowledge in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology, and form comprehensive abilities in mathematical modeling and process simulation to effectively solve key engineering problems in product development, production optimization, and environmental protection in a variety of process industries.

Graduates of this program have the option to pursue further studies in areas such as advanced separation engineering, nanotechnology, polymers and plastics, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, chemical process optimization, safety, water and wastewater treatment and management, climate change, and energy; as well as broader career prospects in the chemical, energy, materials, and environmental industries, pharmaceutical, medical, food, electronics, aviation, and automotive industries.
