The safety month opening event added interactive carnival activities, which were divided into two parts: lab safety knowledge sharing and emergency rescue practice areas. The former one focused on safety management implemented by the campus, and was divided into six topics: lab safety, lab waste management, personal protection, chemical management, fire safety, energy saving, electricity safety, as well as disaster prevention and reduction.

The later part was divided into several sections, including AED introduction, CPR, personal protective equipment, simulated smoke escaping, fire extinguishing and self-rescue equipment using.

The first aid team of the First Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College was invited to demonstrate and explain first aid, including CPR, AED and Heimlich maneuver to GTIIT teachers and students. Participants were able to master self-help and rescue skills in conjunction with theory by listening to lectures and operating the simulated equipment themselves.

In the personal protective equipment display area, the staff introduced respiratory protection, hand protection, facial protection, and body protection, as well as equipments such as the self-contained breathing apparatus, half-mask, filter box, protective gloves, and protective clothing. Teachers and students learned their corresponding protective functions and how to use them in the actual experimental activities.

The "fire escape experience house" simulates the scene of fire through scene-setting and smoke. Before the drill, the trainer explained the precautions for the house. Then he guided participants to enter in an orderly manner to experience the process of self-help in a small, dark space, finding an evacuation route.

Participants learned safety, emergency and self-rescue operations through hands-on training. Samuel Xu from EHS said that the event was a good opportunity to arise GTers' safety awareness and strengthen their relevant skills. He hoped this can help build a safe and harmonious environment in GTIIT.
