To better introduce the south campus to the public, Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology recently invited journalists from the national, provincial and municipal media to visit the campus.
Journalists Climbing on the Climbing Wall
The 10-meter-tall climbing wall attracted media’s eyes. With a total length of about 28 meters, consisting of a speed climbing area, a lead climbing wall, and an auto-belay climbing area, the climbing wall can be used for recreation, teaching, holding team-building activities, etc. Under the guidance and protection of the coach, the journalists fought against the gravity to reach higher.
With a total construction area of 283,000 square meters, the GTIIT South Campus construction project is divided into four phases. The layout of GTIIT campus was designed by the team of He Jingtang of the Architectural Design and Research Institute of South China University of Technology. After completion, the South Campus being constructed will become the main campus of GTIIT.
The First Phase has Reached about 95% Completion
The media visited the first phase of the project. The living and sports area includes faculty apartments, student dormitories, gymnasiums, academic exchange centers, international schools and supporting facilities, etc.

The first phase of the South Campus project has been 95% complete, and since April, the climbing wall, swimming pool, track field, basketball courts, badminton courts, volleyball courts and other sports venues have been opened to students one after another. Several students were interviewed by the media at the south campus.
“I had only seen these professional facilities in large shopping malls, but now our school has a rock climbing area,” said Chen Jiaxin, a Cohort 2020 student from Biotechnology and Food Engineering, “Many of us have already participated in climbing activities."

Lin Ruochong, a Cohort 2020 student from Materials Science and Engineering, loves long-distance running and has become a regular visitor to the track field of the south campus, "The sports facilities on the South Campus are extensive and of the highest quality. We can enjoy the best sports facilities without leaving campus, which is fantastic!"

“Sport is one of the most important part for students’ lives in GTIIT!” introduced Dr. Fabian Rios, Head of GTIIT sports unit and Senior Teacher of Materials Science and Engineering. GTIIT provides not only facilities, but also more than 15 kinds of PE classes for students. In addition to traditional PE classes such as football, basketball, badminton and swimming, students have also been exposed to soccer, rock climbing, yoga, tai chi, etc. Professional instructors and coaches will guide standardized training for students. "Sports can not only strengthen the body, but also make our students energetic!"
