The 2022 Training of Talents in the Industry of Fine Chemicals in Shantou, jointly organized by the Organization Department of Shantou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Bureau of Industry and Information Technology of Shantou, and Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) opened yesterday. It aimed at cultivating professional, modern and international technical managers and engineers, and endeavored to contribute to Shantou’s strategy of “Establish the City with Industry, Strengthen the City with Industry”.
During the Opening Ceremony, Moris Eisen, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of GTIIT, gave a warm welcome to the participants. He pointed out that GTIIT, with the advanced teaching philosophy and research management experience from the Technion, cultivated talents based on the local demand and carried out visionary research, helping with the industry innovation and technology advancement of Shantou and Guangdong Province.
“GTIIT is famous for the Chemical and Chemistry Engineering research, and we are looking forward to a more interactive class,” said Michael Lv, Director of Guangdong Technion Technology Entrepreneurship Center, “GTIIT provides knowledge for the participants while receiving feedback from the industry to help with our research.”
Prof. Kong Bo from GTIIT Chemical Engineering Program is the academic mentor for the training. He gave a detailed introduction to the academic team and the advanced laboratories of GTIIT. He hoped that in the university-industry interaction, GTIIT could have opportunities to know the technical needs from the front line as well as contribute to the local industries with the university resources.
This year’s training will be divided into several one-week sessions through the end of the year. Relied on GTIIT’s international talent team and advanced research resources, the training provides courses involving industry trends, green chemical industry, enterprise management and digitalization, building a learning and communicating platform for the participants. Hundreds of managers, frontline engineers and technicians in the chemical industry will engage in and discuss with the experts on the bottlenecks occurred in the workplace and harvest farsighted ideas in the sharing.

Enterprises representatives “thumbed up” for the essential courses. “It meets the needs of our development because the talent cultivation provided by the training is necessary for the enterprises,” said Lv Yingjie, Vice General Manager of Guangdong Yalget Fine Chemical Company. “We appreciated the opportunity for it enabled us to learn more expertise and contribute to the continuous development of our company and the local economy,” said Huang Xiazhi, Assistant to the General Manager of Cosbe Laboratory Inc.
Committed to serving the society with research output and building a university-industry collaboration system, GTIIT keeps in close touch with the government and industries, to promote technological transfer and innovation. Up to now, GTIIT had 9 technical cooperation projects with industries and signed Memoranda of 4 in Cooperation on Innovation Platforms and 5 on Strategic Cooperation with companies, as well as took an active role as the “2021 Guangdong Enterprises’ Science and Technology Commissioners”.
Starting from the training, GTIIT aims at enhancing talent, industry and economy development of the fine chemicals industry in Shantou, contributing to the city’s strategy of “Establish the City with Industry, Strengthen the City with Industry” with “GTIIT Power”.
