Organized by GTIIT, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Materials and Technologies for Energy Conversion (MATEC) and Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory, the Forum invited experts and scholars from well-known universities (Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Central South University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Jilin University, Sun Yat-sen University, Southern University of Science and Technology, Shantou University, Guangdong University of Technology) and research institutes (Shanghai Institute of Silicate, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering of CAS, Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Guangdong Provincial Laboratory of Chemistry and Fine Chemicals and Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory) to deliver academic talks on the research frontiers and application prospect of energy storage technologies and dielectric materials.

Addressing a warm welcoming speech, Prof. Gong Xingao, Chancellor of GTIIT and Academician of CAS, hoped extended exchanges among scholars and intelligent support for relevant fields would be conducted through the Forum. In his speech, he also introduced GTIIT's comprehensive curriculum, robust research teams and its favorable prospect of talent training.

Prof. Daniel Tan, Deputy Head of MSE and Director of MATEC, said the Forum was a unique opportunity for high-level exchanges. "We hope to maintain close ties among scholars and gather more strength to turn common research interests into application." Shantou is currently developing a new energy industry represented by offshore wind power, which is related to energy storage technologies and materials. "Some technologies, we believe, are about to come of age and can be transformed into practices. Through technology upgrades and talent training, GTIIT will better serve the needs of local development."

Prof. Dang Zhimin from Tsinghua University regarded the connection and collaboration between research and enterprise as a key issue. "We've already had frontier studies, yet it is critical to know how to apply them. We are looking forward to better solutions or directions through relaxed discussions, so that we could move forward and contribute to the country's energy industry."

Energy storage technologies and dielectric materials are essential in many industries, including transportation, aviation, oil exploration, renewable energy, and the state grids, as well as in academic research. Scholars presented their respective research progress and latest achievements in terms of research background, research content and methodology, conclusions and outlook, focusing on topics of dielectric materials, nanomaterials, batteries, supercapacitors, thin film and 2D materials.

Experts and scholars aired their views and solutions during the discussion session.

After the event, participants visited the university's research labs and admired its sophisticated instruments.

On October 8, the Workshop on Energy Storage Materials and Exchanges on Wind Power Storage will be held in Nan'ao, Shantou. Taking advantage of the Forum, more in-depth and diverse discussion as well as breakthroughs in energy storage technologies and dielectric materials could be expected.
