Finding new hobbies, travelling around China... do you still remember GTers’ colorful life in the former article?

In this summer holiday, there are also GTers conducting internships in various industries, putting what they have learned into practice and shining in the fields they love.

Biopharmaceutical Company 

Cohort 2019 Li Mudi

Internships are an extremely important part of practical learning during university time. My internship in a biopharmaceutical company is the first internship in my life, and is also a test of my professional knowledge that I have learned for more than three years.

I skilfully used the experimental methods I have learned in GTIIT, and participated in various experiments under the guidance of my colleagues, such as qualitative analysis of substances with UV spectrophotometer, and determination of osmotic pressure with freezing point osmometer, and determination of the pH value of the solution, etc. My operation ability has also been consolidated in this process. In addition, the weekly R&D group discussion has benefited me a lot, and I could expand my knowledge and improve my skills in addition to the daily work.

Of course, I also learned some new laboratory testing methods, such as BCA method for protein content determination, SDS-PAGE electrophoresis experiment, Western-Blotting experiment, RP-HPLC, SEC, ELISA experiment to detect anti- Binding ability of VEGF-A nanobody to VEGF165 of antigen, and stability research experiment of PP sample tube, etc.

This experience has enabled me to correctly deal with various problems and difficulties in workplace, enhance my adaptability to new environment, and quickly integrate into the collective. At work, when I had something I don’t understand, I would humbly ask for advice from experienced seniors, listen to their guidance, and draw inferences from them.

The internship provided me with a platform for learning in practice. I can find out the gap between my knowledge and the actual needs of the society, supplement relevant knowledge in my future learning process, prepare for my career, and shorten the adaptation period from campus to society.

Securities Company 

Cohort 2021 Liu Siqi

This summer, I went to a securities company to start my internship. I learned financial knowledge and practiced the methods and skills of asset allocation in my daily work.

In GTIIT, I majored in mathematics and computer science. This program covers a wide range of topics and has infinite possibilities in the future. I've only been in GTIIT for a year, so I have plenty of time to look for my future direction. Of course, I am not sure which position is more suitable for me now, but having more experience will allow me to have my own thoughts on more industries. During this internship, I learned a lot from the partners and mentors. Even though it required getting up early every day, the experience was full of joy and enjoyment!

4A Advertising Company

@Cohort 2019 Wang Ziming

During the two-month internship, I gained not only the work experience at a big 4A advertising company, but also the life experience in a big city. I used my rest time to meet many friends in Shanghai, listen to their personal development plans, and eat a lot of Shanghai food.

The world outside GTIIT is challenging and exciting, but is not always perfect. The sense of achievement in this internship comes from my participating in a marketing campaign that lasted for several months. What I have done is no longer academic, but has commercial value. Of course, many things also broke my original perception. In the cooperation with the stars and their studios, the "businessmen" were looking for benefits, and no one wants to take less. It is difficult to connect this with their friendly public persona. Colleagues were no longer as close as classmates, and most of the communication mainly happened at work. But the flaws do not hide the jades. Generally speaking, I still look forward to my career in the future!

Aquatic Company

@Cohort 2019 Pan Yihui

In the aquatic company, I was in the microbiological laboratory for the first two weeks to test the E. coli of the finished products; in the following two weeks, I was rotated to the pesticide residue laboratory to test whether the residual antibiotics and pesticides in the products exceeded the standard. The knowledge and skills used in the internship are all commonly used in GTIIT study, so the work is not difficult to me.

After the internship, I think the biggest gain is that my consideration and focus on products have become more diverse. I used to  think as a student, and the solution to certain problems was usually only focused on "whether it works". However, after entering the company, I realized that the investment, positioning, and complexity of the production process are equally important.

However, the overall internship is relatively repetitive, and it is suitable for junior students as their first internship. For students in the third year of university, like me, it’s better to choose the industry that they want to work in the future. I didn't take it into consideration when I chose this internship, and I still kind of regret it. Maybe in the future, I will squeeze time in my senior year to do another internship.

Summer School 

@Cohort 2020 Zhao Chenhao

I had two internships this summer: the first was as a tutor for elementary school students in summer school; the second was doing product-related data testing in a chemical factory in my hometown. Because my dream is to be a chemistry teacher, I did an education-related internship and a chemistry-related internship this summer to get closer to my dream. I would like to share my experience in the first internship.

The summer school I served has English-medium environment, and the elementary school students who came to participate are also good at English, so we also need to speak fluent English. Our work positions are divided into two types: group tutors and activity tutors. Group tutors are more related to life management, while activity tutors are more involved in children's courses to ensure that children gain and grow here. I have participated in two programs, so I have tried both positions. I also participated the basketball club there, taught the children some basic basketball skills, and made them understand the importance of teamwork. At the closing ceremony, I feel extremely proud from my heart when I saw their improvement.

I learned a lot in this internship. I became more humble, more responsible, and more thoughtful. In the days of getting along with children, I also experienced the hard work of my parents. From not adapting to adapting, my mentality shifted from completing the task to enjoying it. This internship allowed me to make many excellent friends, and let me master the way of communicating and educating children of different ages, which has been very rewarding for me.
