China education in foreign teachers' eyes

PostTime:10/19/2022

The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China points out that we must prioritize the development of education, build China's self-reliance and strength in science and technology, and rely on talent to pioneer and propel development.

On the occasion of the Congress, foreign teachers at Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) shared their experiences and views of education in China.

Changes in the type of education

Over the seven years in China, Prof. Eli Aljadeff, Head of Mathematics with Computer Science Program, has witnessed changes in various aspects of education and affirmed China's openness to science and technology. “China has established universities, labs, and research centers, giving very high-level education. We start to see some changes in the type and level of education. There was an incredible improvement in this field.”

He believes that education should be more inclusive. “GTIIT welcomes students who are talented in science and technology. Some of them have won awards in STEM competitions. When they come to GTIIT, we provide them with opportunities in their talented subject, help them grow into scientists, and contribute to society.”

Leader in international education

Prof. Varenyam Achal, Deputy Dean of Undergraduate Studies, points out that China is becoming a leader in international education. “If you look today, there are several sino-foreign universities in China, such as GTIIT, that are providing international education to Chinese students. GTIIT students follow the same curriculum as Technion students, and teachers here are trained by the Technion. As a result, students here receive the same level of international education while staying in China.”

“By doing so, GTIIT is developing and nurturing young talents who will be the future of China. I would say that China is really doing great in such cooperation and developing as an international icon in education,” he said.

Creative creates the future

Dr. Michail Paraskevas came to China in Feburary, 2019. “China is definitely a good place to continue living and creating. I would use so far the word ‘creative’ to describe China, because it doesn't just show the new ideas, but also the ability to create a lot.”

“In my line of work, especially when it comes to laboratory equipment and all that, there are many Chinese companies creating innovative equipment. And they have really good quality! There is definitely more future in the creation and these products.”
