On December 6th, the final and award ceremony of the 3rd Video Contest of Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) was successfully held on the South Campus. Themed with “scientific journey at GTIIT” and organized by GTIIT News and Public Affairs Department, the competition shows GTers’ great passion for creativity and breaks the stereotype that science and engineering students only focus on scientific research.

Prof. Lin Danming, Pro-Vice Chancellor of GTIIT, delivered a welcoming speech for the contest. He briefly introduced the contest, congratulated the students entering the final and expressed heartfelt thanks to the judges.

The judges included Mr. Jeremiah Foo, Founder & Head of School, Cyberjaya Academy of Screen Arts & Technology and Executive Committee Member of Meihodo International Youth Visual Media Festival; Mr. Hui Seng Kin, Mentor of Cyberjaya Academy of Screen Arts & Technology and Post-production producer for commercial films; Ms. Li Lin, Content Director of Video Products Department at New Media Business Center, Southern Metropolis Daily; Mr. Yang Yi, Vice-President of Shantou Television Artists Association and Film and Television Producer of Shantou Media Convergence Group; and Mr. Cheng Tiansong, a PhD student at GTIIT and a Content Creator on Bilibili. Ms. Li Min, Director of GTIIT News and Public Affairs Department, and some judges were invited to award prizes to the winners.

Different from previous contests, the competition this year gave students more time to getprepared. At the beginning of the competition, a lecture with the theme of “story exploration and video creation” given by Mr. Jeremiah Foo was held to equip students with professional knowledge and help them determine their video topics. The competition received active response while the number and the types of works were greatly improved. In addition to conventional video shooting, frame-by-frame animation, aerial video and other forms were also involved with diverse themes such as campus life, popularization of scientific phenomena, campus view and soon.     

After public voting and on-site judges scoring, the competition decided one First Prize, two Second Prizes, three Third Prizes, four Excellence Prizes and one Internet Popularity Award. Congratulations!

The video contest provides a platform for the students to show campus life and express their creativity, with the colorful and vibrant life uncovered at a science and engineering university. In the future, GTIIT will continue to hold video contests and related training to build up a stimulating environment for creation.
