Title: Roles of mechanics in beating heart cells and cancer metastasis

Speaker: Ohad Cohen & Dan Deviri (Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel)

Time: 16:30-17:30, Wednesday, Dec. 20th, 2017

Venue: Rm E210, Education building, GTIIT

Abstract: In the second GTIIT BioSoft seminar, two short talks will be given focusing on the roles of mechanics in beating heart cells and in cancer metastasis. It is right time for GTIIT students, who are finishing the course of MECHANICS, to touch the frontier of modern mechanics researches. Mr. Ohad Cohen will talk about “Mechanical synchronization of beating heart cells”. Mr. Dan Deviri will talk about “Rupture of nuclei during cell migration through tissue”. Many experiments have shown that animal cells sense and respond to the mechanical properties of their environment. Such results suggest that cells are not only able to sense mechanical forces applied to them by the matrix in which they are embedded, but are also able to respond by modifying the forces they themselves apply to the matrix.
