GTIIT

Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) is a Sino-foreign cooperative educational institution located in Shantou, Guangdong Province, China. GTIIT was formally established in 2016 as a result of the unique cooperation between Shantou University (STU) and the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (the Technion). GTIIT welcomed its first cohort in 2017. GTIIT is the first Sino-foreign cooperative university with an independent legal entity to introduce China with Israel's high-quality higher education resources.

GTIIT is an international level research-oriented university with unique characteristics. Its vision is to become a world-class international university, conducting cutting-edge research in the fields of science and technology. GTIIT is introducing the high-quality educational resources of the Technion, one of the world's top technological institutions. It carries out innovative teaching, cutting-edge research and high-level technology transfer. It cultivates outstanding talents with innovative ability, global vision, and humanistic quality. In 2018, Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology was included in the "High-level University Construction Plan" of Guangdong Province, becoming one of the youngest universities selected for this plan.


Technion

The Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (Technion) is located in Haifa, Israel, which is known for its innovative and entrepreneurship culture. It was established in 1912 and is the oldest university in Israel. Since its establishment, the Technion has achieved many scientific and technological innovations. It recruited first-class faculty members and gave birth to three Nobel Prize winners. In the 2023 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU 2023), the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology ranks 79th in the world.

1. Features of GTIIT Graduate Programs

  • Degree awarded by Technion: Masters and doctoral degrees will be awarded by the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Israel and certified by the Ministry of Education of China.

  • International application: The international admission application system has been adopted. Applicants do not need to take the National Graduate Entrance Examination in China. There are no compulsory requirements in English proficiency test score for candidates in most departments.

  • Dual advisor: A dual-advisor system is implemented. Students will primarily complete their research and studies at GTIIT in Shantou, China. Masters and doctoral students will spend at least one or two semesters of study and research, respectively, at the Technion in Haifa, Israel.

  • International top faculty recourses: GTIIT recruits world leading international faculty members from top universities and research institutions around the world ensuring a high level of teaching and research and enabling collaboration and access to a global research community and collaboration.

  • Teaching language: In accordance with the teaching methods and teaching quality assurance system of the Technion, graduate courses are delivered entirely in English at GTIIT. GTIIT provides students with a multi-cultural, interactive, innovative and international learning environment, and is committed to cultivate pioneering leaders and researchers with innovative ability, global vision and humanistic quality.

  • Fellowship & tuition waiver: A generous scholarship is awarded, and tuition fees are waived.

Science Departments:

3. Degree Duration

  • Normal Period (Full-Time) - MSc Degree: 24 months

  • Normal Period (Full-Time) - PhD Degree:

48 months for Physics & Chemistry department

42 months for all other departments


4. Enrollment Time

  • MSc Degree    

March in spring semester

October in winter semester

  • PhD Degree

5. Financial Support

  • Fellowship

MSc: 42,000-54,000 RMB/year 

PhD: 60,000-108,000 RMB/year

The fellowship amount will be increased during residence at Technion.

  • Waived tuition

worth 15,000 USD per year

  • Subsidized room rental in GTIIT campus

6. Language Requirements

  • MSc:

For the following programs:

For Mechanical Engineering applicants may require a GRE waiver, must have a recommendation from the future advisor. Applicants for Mechanical Engineering from non-English speaking countries might be required to take a TOEFL test instead.

For the department of Chemistry, applicants might be required to take the GRE, depending upon the decision of the committee following the interview.

  • PhD:

Applicants for Mechanical Engineering from non-English speaking countries, who are exempt from GRE, might be required to take a TOEFL test instead.

Candidates in most departments can submit four recommendation letters to apply for a GRE exemption (including 1 letter from the Technion future advisor, 1 letter from the Master advisor).

*Candidates who have completed their studies at Technion/GTIIT are exempt from the GRE.


7. How to Apply

Step 1: Select your graduate program.

* Finding an advisor at GTIIT prior to registration is a prerequisite.

Step 2: Send your application documents to the faculty member that you are interested in.

Step 3: Administrative approval, academic evaluation and recommendation to Technion Graduate School will be issued by GTIIT.

Step 4: Complete the online application form and pay the application fee.

Step 5: Administrative and academic approval will be issued by the Technion.

8. Registration Dates

MSc:

  • Not Technion/GTIIT graduates:

Winter semester: March 11

Spring semester: October 11

  • Technion/GTIIT graduates:

Winter semester: April 9

Spring semester: November 9

PhD:

Registration for a PhD program takes place throughout the year.
