The 34th National Energy Efficiency Promotion Week lasts from 13th to 19th May this year. On May 13th, the launching ceremony of the 2024 Shantou Energy Efficiency Promotion Week hosted by the Shantou Municipal Development and Reform Bureau and the Shantou Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau, co-organized by the Shantou Municipal Energy Saving Center, and organized by Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) was held at GTIIT South Campus.
At the launching ceremony, Wang Weiping, Deputy Director of the Shantou Municipal Development and Reform Bureau, emphasized the significance of carrying out the Energy Efficiency Promotion Week activities, introduced Shantou's energy conservation situation and the progress of carbon reduction work in recent years, kicking off the 2024 Shantou Energy Efficiency Promotion Week.
Lin Shiang, Deputy Director of the Shantou Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau, pointed out the importance of vigorously developing green buildings in his speech, and gave an overall introduction to the achievements and future development directions of Shantou's green buildings.
Chen Shaogang, Assistant to GTIIT PVC, introduced the green campus based on the "sponge city" concept to the guests. GTIIT North Campus has obtained the highest level of national green building - a three-star green building. As a "sponge campus", 65.4% of the ground area in GTIIT is permeable pavement. The campus ecological artificial lake covers an area of 3,425㎡. Rainwater from the building roof and road surface is collected and purified under the ecological purification project, aiming to maintain the balance of water ecology and create beautiful scenery. The South Campus breaks the monotonous landscape caused by a large area of sunken green space. A large rain garden of 8,299㎡ is set up with ecological wetlands, water-friendly platforms, walking planks, etc. The rainwater storage tank on campus collects, processes and purifies rainwater and then uses it for greening watering, road sprinkling, garage floor cleaning, and water feature replenishment. It can save up to 592.49 tons of water per day.
After the launch ceremony, the leaders and guests visited the water-saving facilities of the "sponge campus" and rain garden landscape located at GTIIT south campus. They also learned about the construction concept of the green campus and felt the charm of the ecologically beautiful university.
Energy conservation and carbon reduction brochures were distributed at the event, to popularize energy-saving related policies and laws, enhance public awareness in energy-saving and carbon reduction, and advocate for a green and low-carbon lifestyle.
