Recently, the "GTIIT-CIMC OFFSHORE Joint Laboratory of Decarbonization & New Energies", co-built by Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) and China International Marine Containers (CIMC) Offshore, was officially inaugurated and settled in Shantou Science City as a representative of scientific research platforms.
GTIIT Assoc. Prof. He Xuezhong, Head of the Joint Laboratory
Prof. Lin Danming, Pro-Vice Chancellor of GTIIT, along with Assoc. Prof. He Xuezhong of GTIIT Chemical Engineering program and representatives from CIMC, jointly unveiled the laboratory. Both sides held in-depth discussions on further cooperation. Michael Lv, Head of GTEC attended the discussion.
Prof. Lin Danming warmly welcomed the CIMC delegation. "GTIIT has attached great importance to industry-university-research cooperation and fully leveraged the university's research characteristics and international technology advantages. GTIIT faculty team has rich experience in academic research as well as collaboration with industries. I believe that the laboratory will serve as an important platform for the cooperation between the two sides," he said.
Liu Lianhao, Research Manager of CIMC National Engineering Laboratory said, the "GTIIT-CIMC OFFSHORE Joint Laboratory of Decarbonization & New Energies" is derived from the cooperative project "Marine Membrane Carbon Capture Devices and Membrane Technology Research and Development", the representative cooperation between GTIIT and CIMS. The project is one of the Shenzhen Municipal Technology Breakthrough Projects with a funding of 10 million RMB and is the one up-to-date to meet the developing CCUS (carbon capture, utilization and storage) technology, with the main research focus on the process of membrane carbon capture, membrane module and devices.
The both sides later discussed potential cooperation in clean energy. Several GTIIT professors shared their research achievements in key industrial chain links such as carbon dioxide conversion, hydrogen production, and hydrogen storage, etc. Dr. Chen Lijie, head of CIMC Green Hydrogen Laboratory pointed out that multiple GTIIT faculty members' research achievements are highly consistent with the current development direction of CIMC, and they hoped to achieve technical breakthroughs and industrial upgrades with GTIIT.
Located in Shenzhen, China, the headquarter of CIMC is an integrated service provider in the field of logistics and marine equipment, with business covering over 100 countries and regions worldwide, and over 1 hundred billion Yuan sales. CIMC Offshore, a wholly-owned subsidiary of CIMC Group, is a major supplier of high-end offshore equipment globally. With research and finance as its main business, the company has set up 3 international production bases for marine equipment, 4 R&D centers, and 3 operation centers.
