Recently, the 2024 International Symposium on Advanced Materials and Flexible Electronics (AMFE), hosted by Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) and Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Materials and Technologies for Energy Conversion (MATEC), was held successfully in GTIIT. Prof. Takao Someya, world's leading expert in flexible electronics, delivered a lecture entitled "Recent Advancements in Electronic Skins" during the symposium.
This symposium brought together scholars from 20 world-leading universities and institutes, including Peking University, the University of Tokyo, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Nanjing University, Macau University, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Institute of Physical and Chemical Research in Japan, etc. They explored research achievements, opportunities, challenges, and future directions from academic and industrial perspectives, promoting the innovation and cooperation in related areas.

Professor Takao Someya, Executive Director and Vice President at the University of Tokyo, visited GTIIT during the symposium. He is a world-renowned expert in flexible electronics and one of the pioneers of electronic skin. During his keynote speech for "Guangdong-Technion Leadership in Science and Technology Lecture Series", he introduced the recent advancements in electronic skins.
The lecture drew active participation from GTIIT faculty and students. Drawing on his research, Prof. Someya reviewed recent advancements in stretchable thin-film electronics for applications in robotics and next-generation healthcare wearables, addressing current challenges and exploring the prospects of electronic skins.

On the day of the symposium, nearly 30 presentations on cutting-edge topics in advanced flexible materials and intelligent sensing were delivered. Scholars shared their research findings, covering areas such as electronic skin, soft materials, flexible optoelectronic devices, intelligent sensors, and functional composite materials. The participants actively engaged in discussions, creating a strong atmosphere of academic discussion. The exchanges of academic and industrial perspectives sparked innovative ideas for the industry.
The AMFE 2024 provided a high-level platform for the exchanges of research findings among renowned experts in the field. It also offered GTIIT faculty and students a valuable opportunity to learn from the experts and gain insights into the latest academic developments.
