On November 14th, the fifth Student Congress of Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) was held in the Auditorium of the north campus. Prof. Lin Danming, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Secretary of General Party Branch Committee of GTIIT; Dr. Lawrence Liao, Director of GTIIT Student Affairs Department; Ms. Li Min, Secretary of GTIIT Youth League Committee; and other members of GTIIT Youth League Committee attended the congress. 53 student representatives participated in this congress.

The congress reviewed and approved the work report of the sixth Student Union of GTIIT, and voted to elect the committee members and presidium members of the seventh Student Union.

At the congress, Prof. Lin Danming said that the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has brought both opportunities and challenges to Sino-foreign cooperative science and engineering institutions. He encouraged the students to seize these opportunities, continuously improve their comprehensive qualities, and embrace new challenges. He pointed out that sci-tech self-reliance and self-strengthening has been attached great importance. He hoped that students could remain firm in their beliefs, establish correct values, maintain a thirst for knowledge, grasp opportunities of technological innovation, and actively participate in research projects, technological inventions, and industry practices, striving to contribute to the nation and society. He hoped that students would enhance communication, strengthen cooperation awareness, and actively engage in in-depth exchanges through the Student Congress, jointly fostering continuous improvement on campus. He hoped that students would pay more attention to their physical and mental health, promoting comprehensive growth while pursuing academic achievements.

Ms. Li Min expressed the hope that the new student union would strengthen organizational efficiency, enhance member qualities, cultivate a strong sense of responsibility and mission, optimize service functions and actively participate in the university's development.

Zhang Liwen, a member of the sixth Student Union presidium, delivered a work report and summarized the work of the Student Union in the past one year, surrounding aspects of campus life, students' comprehensive quality and theory learning. For example, the Student Union held the new year's party to enrich students' cultural life and enhance cohesion; held the "Top Ten Singers" event to showcase students' artistic talents; and conducted studies and discussions on the themes of "Youth Marxist Project" and "New Quality Productive Forces" to enhance education of Party theories.

During the election phase, a total of 3 members of the Student Union Committee and 2 members of the Student Union presidium were elected. Chen Mingxi, Xiao Di, and Yang Jiacong were elected as members of the Student Union Committee. Besides, three candidates delivered their campaign speeches in turn and the student representatives cast their votes for the new presidium, selecting Wang Wenhao and Guo Hongqiong as the new presidium members. The two students emphasized that they would work together to provide better services for students.

The new Student Union will live up to expectations, work together and contribute themselves with great passion to GTIIT.
