The forum was co-hosted by the relevant departments of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the People's Government of Guangdong Province. Targeting researchers under 45, the forum organizes strategic academic discussions to foster young talents, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, and support the establishment of various scientific projects.
The "Shuangqing-Nan'ao Youth Science Forum", is another important exploration by the NSFC and the Guangdong Provincial Government in deepening basic research cooperation, following the establishment of a joint fund by both sides in 2006. It builds on their respective "Shuangqing Forum" and "Nan'ao Science Conference".
The "Shuangqing Forum" is a strategic academic symposium hosted by the NSFC for 21 years and has organized nearly 400 sessions. The "Nan'ao Science Conference" has successfully hosted 16 high-level scientific meetings since its launch last year, bringing together over 500 experts and scholars, including nearly 90 academicians, to provide strong support for strategic planning in basic research and the development of key disciplines in Guangdong. The two high-profile forums together set a high starting point for the "Shuangqing-Nan'ao Youth Science Forum".
Jiang Song, Deputy Director of the NSFC, pointed out that the "Shuangqing-Nan'ao Youth Science Forum" is a scientific forum aimed at discovering and cultivating young researchers. It is a forum rooted in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, actively exploring international development, and dedicated to discussing real issues, refining real achievements, and proposing genuine ideas. The NSFC will work together with Guangdong Province to continuously focus on the high-quality outcomes of the forum, promote scientific democracy, and fully leverage the forum's forward-looking and guiding role in advancing scientific frontiers and supporting major national needs.
According to reporters from Nanfang Plus, the academic achievements formed by researchers in the "Shuangqing-Nan'ao Youth Science Forum" will be taken as important references in the compilation of guidelines for the Regional Innovation Development Joint Fund of the NSFC, as well as relevant national and regional projects.
Wu Shiwen, Deputy Director of Guangdong Science and Technology Department, stated that in the future, Guangdong will provide more support in terms of funding, organizational coordination, and resource allocation, and work together with the NSFC, to build the "Shuangqing-Nan'ao Youth Science Forum" into a high-level strategic academic exchange platform, contributing to the cultivation of young scientific and technological talents and the high-quality development of basic research.
Following the kick-off meeting, the first session of the "Shuangqing-Nan'ao Youth Science Forum: High-Temperature Superconducting Materials and Mechanisms" was held. After a day and a half of discussions, 40 young scientists identified urgent key issues and proposed future priorities in the field of high-temperature superconductivity, contributing to the high-quality development of this field.
