Ten-year appointment with Nobel Prize Laureate

 #GTIIT 2024 Annual Moments# 

Nobel Prize Laureate (Chemistry 2011), Distinguished Professor Dan Shechtman of the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology visited GTIIT. He delivered a lecture entitled "The connection between the Nobel Prize and Education for Innovation and Entrepreneurship" for faculties and students, and encouraged the young talents: "Be No.1 in the field you love."


The words from Prof. Dan Shechtman illuminated GTIIT students' journey of scientific research. They were excited to share what they harvested from the lecture.

GTIIT achievements in building a high-level academic talent team

#GTIIT 2024 Annual Moments# 

Eighteen GTIIT professors were named on the list of the World's Top 2% Scientists 2024 released by Stanford University. The number of listed GTIIT faculty members hit a record high and multiple scholars are listed for three consecutive years.

By the end of 2024, GTIIT faculty team has published more than 1200 papers, among which approximately 90% have been indexed by SCIE/EI/CPCI. Over 200 research projects were granted, including 27 by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and 1 by the Major Project of Guangdong Basic and Applied Basic Research.

GTIIT faculty team members, including Prof. Daniel Tan, Prof. Zhong Ziyi, Assoc. Prof. Wang Yan, have published research output in international journals. Assoc. Prof. Marcelo Fabián Ciappina published a new book, receiving recognition from the Nobel Prize Laureate.

GTIIT undergraduates showed exceptional research potential

#GTIIT 2024 Annual Moments# 

A research-oriented teaching approach is one of the characteristics of undergraduate education at GTIIT, where students have access to world-class experimental facilities. Up to now, GTIIT has seen over 200 undergraduates participate in or complete nearly 100 research projects under the guidance of their supervisors. In 2024, GTIIT undergraduates including Mo Fan from BFE Program, Li Leqi from CE Program, Fang Yiqi from MCS Program published papers in international journals as first authors or co-authors.

GTIIT graduate Liu Jing's study was published in a biology SCI journal and also selected as the cover. GTIIT graduate Yuan Yue published an article in the world-leading international journal Nature. It is well worth to note that she was among the 600 top young scientist selected across the world to participate in the 73rd Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting 2024.

Great Success in 2024 Gaokao Admission

#GTIIT 2024 Annual Moments# 

The Gaokao admission process of GTIIT in 2024 has concluded with great success. This year, GTIIT admitted 608 new undergraduate students from 16 provinces (cities) including Beijing, Hebei, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Fujian, Jiangxi, Shandong, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Chongqing, Sichuan, and Guizhou, reaching a completion rate of 110%. Despite the new enrolments being 1.15 times that of the previous year, the quality of student pool has comprehensively surpassed the past, attaining a significant increase in high-scoring candidates with 600+ marks, and a notable improvement in admission rankings, with an average advance of nearly 7,000 places and 20% leap in the minimum ranking. The continuous progress in both the scale of enrollment and the quality of students will lay a solid foundation for the sustainable development of the university.

Along the grand symphony performance, GTIIT Commencement For Graduates 2024 was successfully held.

According to incomplete statistics, GTIIT 2024 graduates have received 387 offers from 92 universities, nearly 20% of the offers from the world's Top 10 universities and 92% from the Top 100 universities. One student from the first batch of MCS graduates was admitted to the direct doctoral program. Some GTIIT students were admitted to University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Jilin University, Hunan University and University of Science and Technology Beijing. Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Yale University welcomed GTIIT graduates for the first time.

GTIIT flourished in industry-university-research cooperation 

#GTIIT 2024 Annual Moments# 

Focusing on high-value intellectual property rights and relying on high-level faculty team and laboratories, GTIIT is committed to conducting high-quality basic research and applied research. 


In 2024, GTIIT has applied for 45 patents, with an average annual growth rate of 80%; GTIIT was granted with the first municipal key laboratory: Shantou Key Laboratory of Offshore Wind Power Resources and Application Engineering Technology; "GTIIT-CIMC OFFSHORE Joint Laboratory of Decarbonization & New Energies" was officially inaugurated and settled in Shantou Science City as a representative of scientific research platforms; "GTIIT - Rising Dragon Joint Laboratory of  Hydrodynamics Health & Wellness" started operating; The "Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)-Based 3D Holographic Atmospheric Particle Measurement Instrument Project for offshore wind power" from GTIIT was on display as a signature project of Shantou offshore wind power industry at the Exhibition on Achievements in Industry-Science Integration of Guangdong Provincial High-quality Development Conference…


A number of GTIIT scientific research output turned into application, reaching dozens of cooperation agreements with the industry, and the horizontal scientific research fund amount has broken through ten million for the first time! The internal incubation mechanism has begun, with two in-campus startups, among which the "biomass derived monomers for bioplastics" from GTIIT Chemical Engineering Department was granted with a special fund of 2 million from the Shantou city. The flagship cooperative project, GTIIT-Changzhou Innovation Institute (GCII) was officially unveiled and put into use. Currently, it is incubating 10 high-quality projects, and one startup has been established.

Cooperation in Innovative Efforts

#GTIIT 2024 Annual Moments# 

In 2024, GTIIT successfully held the 9th Council Meeting of Cooperative University Union, and deepened cooperation with universities and institutes, including a Memorandum of Understanding with HKUST, the Strategic Cooperation Agreement with SUSTech, the Strategic Cooperation Agreement and the co-op Cooperation Agreement with National Innovation Center par Excellence (NICE), and the joint establishment of GTIIT-Changzhou Innovation Institute (GCII). Collaborations spanned various areas such as talent training, scientific research and innovation, academic exchanges, and platform construction.

Donations contributed to GTIIT high-quality development

#GTIIT 2024 Annual Moments# 

In 2024, GTIIT has entered its eighth year and achieved a great momentum of development in various aspects, including discipline development and campus construction. Individuals and enterprises including Guangzhou Rising Dragon Recreation Industrial Co., Ltd., Chaozhou Huafeng Group Co., Ltd., Guangdong Beary Food Co., Ltd., Shenzhen WOTE Advanced Materials Co.,Ltd., and Shantou Xintao Resort Co., Ltd. generously donated to GTIIT, adding impetus to the talent cultivation and high-quality development of the university.

Lit up the new map at GTIIT South Campus

#GTIIT 2024 Annual Moments# 

2024 was the year of full integration of GTIIT north and south campuses. As the Administrative Building and Study Center on South Campus were officially put into use, and a new statue of GTIIT mascot "GTIIT Ant" was unveiled, the campus construction of the university took another significant step forward.

The "Shuangqing-Nan'ao Youth Science Forum" was officially launched

#GTIIT 2024 Annual Moments# 

The "Shuangqing-Nan'ao Youth Science Forum" was officially launched, following the first session of it. In the future, GTIIT will continue to support the development of the Forum, focusing on high-quality scientific research, deepening practical cooperation, and promoting the establishment of a high-level academic exchange platform for young scientists.

In 2024, GTIIT organized multiple high-level academic conferences and forums, including the 2nd International Symposium on Food and Biotechnology Engineering, the first International Conference on Nano Energy and Technology (ICNEAT-2024), and the 2024 International Symposium on Advanced Materials and Flexible Electronics (AMFE). Top scholars from various research fields were invited to share insights, driving scientific progress and nurturing young talent.
