As the world rings in 2025,
GTIIT has welcomed a promising start to scientific research.
A long-awaited collaboration,
the first session of
"Shuangqing-Nan'ao Youth Science Forum" arrived.
Experts gathered to share
innovative knowledge,
showcasing a vibrant new momentum
in academic exchange.
Recently, the "Shuangqing-Nan'ao Youth Science Forum", jointly hosted by the Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences and the Planning and Policy Bureau of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), as well as the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, and organized by the Guangdong Basic and Applied Basic Research Fund Committee and Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT), was officially launched in Guangzhou, followed successfully by the first session of it.
Gong Xingao, Chancellor of GTIIT and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, one of the initiators of the Nan'ao Science Conference, and Tao Liang, Dean of Research and Director of Research Office of GTIIT, attended the forum as representatives of Guangdong Province. In addition, Chen Peng, Qi Yuanshen, and Huang Xiaowu, three young scientists from GTIIT, were also invited to attend the conference.
As an important exploration by the NSFC and the Guangdong Provincial Government in deepening basic research cooperation, the "Shuangqing-Nan'ao Youth Science Forum" aims to foster young talents, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, and support the establishment of various scientific projects. Since the decision to host the forum was made, it has garnered significant attention from the scientific community.
The "Shuangqing Forum" is a strategic academic symposium hosted by the NSFC for 21 years and has organized nearly 400 sessions. The "Nan'ao Science Conference" has successfully hosted 16 high-level scientific meetings since its launch last year, bringing together over 500 experts and scholars, including nearly 90 academicians, to provide strong support for strategic planning in basic research and the development of key disciplines in Guangdong. The two high-profile forums together set a high starting point for the "Shuangqing-Nan'ao Youth Science Forum".
At the first session of the "Shuangqing-Nan'ao Youth Science Forum: High-Temperature Superconducting Materials and Mechanisms", 40 young scientists engaged in wide discussions, contributing to the high-quality development of this field. After the forum, GTIIT young scholars unanimously praised this academic feast, which brought together elite minds and yielded fruitful results. They described it as a rare and valuable experience in their academic journey and hoped GTIIT could contribute more to the growth of the forum.
Associate Professor Chen Peng believed this is a vibrant academic forum, which allocated more time for exchanging opinions, allowing researchers with different expertise to directly share first-hand scientific research information. Meanwhile, the forum's rigorous and honest scientific spirit has inspired him to continue contributing to the development of basic research. He hoped GTIIT would continue to host this important forum, further expanding its influence.
Associate Professor Qi Yuanshen spoke highly of the event, stating that he gained a lot from the forum, which provided new thinking and positioning for his research. He also added that the scientific democratic spirit reflected in the debate of scientific truth among experts at the forum was particularly impressive.
Associate Professor Huang Xiaowu said that in this forum, young scientists engaged in intense discussions around research hotspots and difficulties, and questioned some mainstream research ideas. Senior scientists actively provided guidance for young scientists, vividly reflecting the academic culture of "mentoring across generations", which is crucial for breakthrough research in basic science. He emphasized it’s significant for young researchers to establish scientific research confidence and continuously build their "irreplaceability". He looked forward to more opportunities for GTIIT faculty and students to participate in this forum.
In the new year, GTIIT will continue to collaborate with various sides, fully leveraging the think tank role and influence of the "Shuangqing-Nan'ao Youth Science Forum", to assist Guangdong Province in building a high-level academic discussion platform.
