Recently, a delegation from the School of Environment at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) visited the Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT). Professors from GTIIT Department of Environmental Science and Engineering (ESE) engaged in fruitful discussions with the visitors, exploring potential collaborations in scientific research, joint student training, and project applications. Both sides actively sought to deepen their partnership and uncover new ways of cooperation.

Prof. Dganit Danino
Prof. Dganit Danino, Dean of GTIIT Undergraduate Studies, warmly welcomed the delegation and briefly introduced GTIIT’s academic programs and its high-quality teaching model, which is fully aligned with the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. She expressed hope that the workshop would enhance mutual understanding, facilitate the exchange of advanced teaching and research experiences, and unlock further opportunities for collaboration.

At the workshop, representatives from GTIIT and SUSTech introduced the development and achievements of their respective environment departments. They noted that both universities share a high degree of similarity in disciplinary strengths and educational philosophies, expressing eagerness to deepen exchanges on multiple levels. GTIIT Professors Gu Jidong, Varenyam Achal, and Associate Professors Huang Xiaowu, Xiao Keke, and Wang Qian shared updates on their research projects across various fields. They also discussed and envisioned joint research possibilities and collaborative project applications with SUSTech.

Following the meeting, the delegation visited the North Campus Research Building, where they highly praised GTIIT’s advanced and international laboratory facilities.
GTIIT has long embraced openness and connectivity, establishing a solid foundation for collaboration with SUSTech. Since 2022, the two universities have launched a joint postgraduate training program, where students are cultivated in SUSTech for their first semester, and the subsequent courses will be delivered at GTIIT. A double-tutor and diversified teaching mode is adopted to empower innovative talent cultivation. To date, GTIIT has enrolled three cohorts of joint postgraduates, with 42 currently in the program.
Additionally, GTIIT and SUSTech signed the Strategic Cooperation Agreement last year, marking a new stage of all-round exchanges and cooperation between the two universities. Both sides committed to jointly explore the construction of modern university governance system with Chinese characteristics, carry out cooperation in key discipline construction, international scientific research cooperation and graduate cultivation, thus providing wisdom for the development of new productive forces and the cultivation of innovative scientists and researchers with global vision.
