April 15, 2025, marks the 10th National Security Education Day and the 4th anniversary of the implementation of the Biosafety Law.
To enhance the biosafety awareness of faculty and students, the office of Campus Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) at Guangdong Technion – Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) organized a biosafety education event on April 8 in the North Campus. This event was themed “Strengthening Biosafety in GT to Safeguard National Safety and Faculty/Student Health”.
The event meticulously simulated the entire process of a bacteria stolen incident, including discovering sample loss, reporting to relevant departments, sealing off the building area, locating the missing sample and comprehensive disinfection. This allowed participants to gain a more intuitive understanding of emergency response procedures for biosecurity incidents.
In addition to the Stolen ‘Bacteria’ Emergency Drill, sessions such as theoretical cases and Q&A were also conducted. The participants were educated on key areas of the national security outlook, the scope of biosecurity, relevant law and safety precautions in daily lab work.
In April, GTIIT will enhance biosecurity awareness among faculty and students through biosecurity posters, mutual lab inspections, and relevant lectures, all aimed at maintaining campus safety and fostering a biosecurity culture.
