Recently, GTIIT campus has been buzzing with academic excitement. The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics (MER), Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), and Biotechnology and Food Engineering (BFE) have each hosted thematic poster presentation, showcasing over 100 works. These displays highlight students' research capabilities and innovative spirit.
MER Poster Presentation: Innovation with Practical Impact
The first presentation of the first-ever graduating class from MER program featured 60 projects spanning robotics design, precision manufacturing, smart equipment, and other cutting-edge fields, fully demonstrating the fruitful outcomes of GTIIT’s engineering education.
At the venue, dozens of posters were neatly arranged, forming a striking scientific landscape. Students enthusiastically explained their research findings to visitors beside their displays, while faculty advisors moved among them, pausing to engage in thought-provoking discussions that ignited new academic insights.
After reviewing the students’ work, Associate Professor Dmitry Pashchenko from MER program expressed delight at their "huge progress" over four years. "Students provide not only theoretical skills, but also practical skills, how to apply the fundamental background to real life. And some students invented new devices for real life. Those devices will do our life better." he noted.
MSE Poster Presentation: Fusion of Disciplines, Clash of Minds
The MSE Department's poster exhibition showcased the research achievements of the graduates of 2025. Students were encouraged to select research directions based on their interests and collaborate extensively with advisors across multiple fields—including materials science, chemical engineering, and mechanical engineering, etc, breaking through traditional disciplinary boundaries to explore new frontiers of knowledge through interdisciplinary integration.
"We studied the structural changes of yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) under high pressure by placing samples between two diamonds and applying pressure to observe potential phase transformations," explained student Hu Shennan as he presented his research findings in front of his poster. He noted that participating in the poster exhibition provided an invaluable opportunity to gather diverse perspectives, refine his research, and gain clearer direction for future work.
Associate Professor Elissaios Stavrou of the MSE Department praised the students for their open-mindedness and collaborative spirit in research. He emphasized that the students need to explain the projects in easy words, in a way that people that are not familiar should understand, which is a key point for science.
BFE Poster Presentation: Unleash Curiosity Through Early Research
Unlike the in-depth studies of upperclassmen, the poster exhibition by sophomore-bound students in the BFE program seemed more “boundless”. From increasing the size of tomato fruits to addressing the hazards of heavy metal ion pollution in water, exploring cyanobacteria’s potential in energy, and even brainstorming cancer treatments, the students fearlessly showcased their creative ideas, gaining invaluable early exposure to scientific research.
English teacher Kathleen Trudel was inspired by students’ participating enthusiasm, noting that the presentation honed their communication skills: "Even some students’ English is a little bit weaker, they are really trying hard. Everyone is trying to do the best they can."
BFE lecturer Sara Rodriguez Martinez highlighted the remarkable progress students made over the past semester. “The quality of the posters improved significantly from the first drafts they submitted to me. The students took the feedback seriously and put in a lot of effort, and as a result, each version kept getting better. I can proudly say they reached a level of quality that truly reflects their dedication and growth.”
