Legal Lecture:
Know the Law, Live the Law
"What if we plagiarize someone else's thesis?" "Is cash-back fraud a pie in the sky or a trap?" "Can gifts given during a relationship be reclaimed after a breakup?" Recently, GTIIT hosted three legal lectures for freshmen, covering topics from high-frequency crimes students should be wary of, to the multi-layered schemes of online scams, and the "money rules" in love, property, and inheritance. These sessions aimed to help students develop a legal mindset and strengthen their risk prevention awareness.

During the lectures, the keynote lawyer addressed several "common pitfalls" for college students—physical altercations may constitute intentional harm, academic plagiarism can lead to theft charges, and part-time "click-farming" can easily violate laws. Special emphasis was placed on the critical role of managing "two cards" (bank cards and phone SIM cards) as a key defense against campus fraud and crime. An expert from the Anti-Fraud Center of Jinping District Public Security Bureau in Shantou used real cases to dissect the entire chain of telecom fraud, from deceptive scripts to transfer details, and outlined six essential anti-fraud tips.
01 Do not click on unfamiliar links.
02 Protect personal information.
03 Beware of "00" or "+" calls.
04 Only trust calls you make yourself.
05 Verify before transferring money.
06 Don’t fall for greed or fear tactics.

"In relationships, gifts are generally considered unconditional, and usually cannot be reclaimed after a breakup. Exceptions apply for excessively large sums or special agreements," explained a lawyer in another session. Combining relevant provisions from the Civil Code, the lecture delved into trending topics like monetary gifts during relationships, property co-ownership, domestic labor compensation, and divorce cooling-off periods. This helped freshmen clarify the legal boundaries between emotions and finances, equipping them to avoid future disputes.
First Aid Training:
Stay Calm in Emergencies
To enhance the emergency response capabilities of the 2025 freshmen, GTIIT clinic invited a team from the First Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College to conduct a highly informative first aid training session.

During the training, medical experts emphasized the importance of first aid knowledge through real-life cases and focused on teaching three core skills:
1. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR):
Step-by-step breakdown of assessing consciousness, calling for help, chest compressions (depth >5 cm, rate 100-120 compressions per minute), and the coordination of rescue breaths.
2. AED Usage:
Demonstration of how to power on an automated external defibrillator (AED), proper electrode pad placement, and the operation process.
Highlighting the critical role of using an AED within the "golden four minutes" to save cardiac arrest patients.
3. Wound Dressing & Bleeding Control
Techniques for handling common injuries such as abrasions, cuts, and sprains, including circular and spiral bandaging methods.
Guidelines for proper tourniquet application.

After the theoretical explanations, freshmen took turns practicing rescue procedures under the guidance of instructors. This professional and practical training reinforced the students' awareness of "life first, safety foremost," while also contributing to building a safer campus.
Sexual Education:
Healthy Bonds, Wise Choices
Sexual education is a crucial part of health education in universities. In another lecture, the speaker addressed topics such as preventing sexually transmitted infections, building healthy intimate relationships, and the core principles of sexual consent. The session aimed to enhance students' risk awareness and foster healthy, scientific, and safe attitudes toward sexuality.

Health knowledge
Sexual contact is the most common transmission route for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Other secondary routes include indirect transmission (e.g., contact with contaminated towels, utensils, or public baths), bloodborne transmission (such as sharing needles), and mother-to-child transmission.
2. The "Three Lines of Defense":
Establish healthy attitudes toward sex: Avoid multiple partners and premature sexual activity to reduce risks at the source.
Maintain good hygiene habits: Do not share personal items and stay vigilant in public settings.
Use condoms correctly during sex: Effective in preventing most STDs (e.g., HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea) and reducing unintended pregnancy risks.
Mental Health:
Embrace Yourself, Stay Positive
"How to manage overwhelming emotions?" In a psychological adaptation lecture, mentors from GTIIT guided students in developing healthy self-awareness across four dimensions—emotions, relationships, academics, and self-care, to help them embrace challenges with a positive and resilient mindset.

Practical psychological adjustment strategies, such as sensory grounding and deep breathing, were warmly received by students. Many closed their eyes under the instructor’s guidance, immersing themselves in a focused, introspective atmosphere to embrace emotional shifts.
