To deepen university-local collaborative education, faculty and students from Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) recently carried out a series of practical research activities. From exploring soil improvement technologies to experiencing the cultural heritage of seaweed craftsmanship, GTIIT students immersed themselves in the fields and community frontline. Through hands-on practice, they gained insights of how technology empower agriculture and industries in rural areas, injecting innovative vitality into rural revitalization.
From classroom to field: explore new soil improvement technologies
Under the organization of the Party Committee and Youth League Committee of GTIIT, students visited the Chaofu Shenglian Modern Agricultural Industrial Park and the Beizhong Village Agricultural Practice Base in Longhu District of Shantou for research. This event, themed on "Soil improvement and fertility enhancement—A practical investigation into modern agricultural technologies", aimed to provide students with firsthand understanding of modern agricultural practices in the Chaoshan region, particularly in soil optimization and ecological cultivation.

The students conducted on-site investigations into the application of technologies such as soil improvement, integrated water-fertilizer systems, and organic farming. They also engaged in in-depth discussions with agricultural experts on practical issues, including soil testing, fertilizer formulation, and ecological cultivation models. Taking the current situation of the park as an example, an expert provided a detailed introduction to the challenges encountered in the agricultural development of the Chaoshan region, a series of methods to address soil-related issues, and patiently answered the questions raised by the students.

This research not only deepened students' understanding of soil improvement and fertility enhancement technologies, but also allowed them to experience the significance of modern agricultural technology in promoting rural revitalization. The students would further integrate the insights gained from the research with their knowledge, accumulating valuable experience for agricultural technology and rural development.

This activity represents an important practice of GTIIT's "double-hundred action" in the Longhu District. Moving forward, GTIIT will continue to promote university-local cooperation, bridge the gap between academic intellectual resources and local agricultural needs, and provide robust support for cultivating talents with innovation and practical capabilities.
Appreciate the heritage of craftsmanship in Donghu Community
Recently, GTIIT Youth League Committee organized over 40 students to visit Donghu Community in Haojiang District to deepen university-local collaboration and appreciate the inheritance and innovation of local culture.

At the beginning of the event, students learned about the history and current status of the community's seaweed industry through a promotional video. Subsequently, under the demonstration and guidance of the local craftsmanship inheritors, the students experienced traditional "pick-and-roast" process of charcoal-roasting seaweed. From the selection of materials to the control of heat and the technique of flipping and roasting, each step embodies the skill and wisdom passed down through generations.

At the Chaozhou Cuisine Training Base of Shantou Technician College, students worked in groups to create various innovative dishes using seaweed. Amid the clinking of kitchen utensils and under the guidance of instructors, the students processed the roasted seaweed, exploring the diverse possibilities of seaweed products.

As the event concluded, students gathered to savor the seaweed dishes they had prepared, accompanied by the Donghu chrysanthemum tea, while sharing their reflections on the activity. They expressed admiration for the intricacy of traditional techniques and excitement about the creativity of practical innovations.
During this activity, GTIIT students stepped out of the campus and into the community, experiencing the integrated development model of "craftsmanship inheritance + product innovation". This further inspired their enthusiasm and sense of responsibility for serving local communities.
