The annual national college entrance exam, or Gaokao, has come to an end, and now comes the critical period for university application. GTIIT admissions officers are busy answering enquiries from high school graduates and their parents. One of the most frequently asked questGion is: what is special about the teaching in GTIIT?
About this question, Prof. Ori Lahav, Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Head of Environmental Engineering program, provided a detailed answer. Besides, some features are also summarized here.
Now, let’s see what makes GTIIT so special!
Lecture-Tutorial method
We work according to the Lecture-Tutorial method, which means that each theoretical lecture is accompanied by a tutorial in which the students practice the practical aspects of the knowledge they acquired in the lecture. The teaching method in the tutorials is in small groups and encourages question asking and involvement of the students in the class.

Studies period
From the point of view of the whole studies period, the idea is the following: in the first three semesters, the students receive the basic scientific tools that help them thereafter to learn the more professionally oriented classes, i.e. several courses in mathematics, physics and chemistry and also biology (when relevant).
In these first 3 semesters the students get exposed to the profession only in the way of introductory courses (e.g. Introduction to Chemical Eng., etc.).
From the fourth semester, the students learn core (and compulsory) courses in the specific profession, along with more advanced introductory courses (programming, computer-based design, etc.).
From around Semester 6, the students start choosing their profession-related elective courses, which allow them to choose a given path within the profession, along with continuation of advanced compulsory courses and laboratories.
In the 4th year, the students are exposed to supervised final projects which are projects related to a basic or applicative research or engineering topic, which is done either in the university or in a related industry and is supervised by a professor from the program.
The varying tools that the student gets during these four years ensure (in most cases) the production of a knowledgeable and independent engineers, who have been exposed to all facets of the profession.

Preparation period
All freshmen are required to participate in a five-week preparation period, which consists courses of Technical English, mathematics and physics. The instruction language in the period is English and it is designed to give students a solid foundation in math, physics and English and get them prepared for the formal academic semester.
Internationalization
Our all-English program, foreign academic team and exchange program to Technion join to make a global campus for our students. Such global diversity campus life will help GTIIT students to gain cross-cultural communication skills as well.
We are doing what we can to ensure students admitted are among the top and will be well equipped upon graduation. If you wish to experience more in GTIIT, join us and give your innovation and wisdom a place to blossom!

See you on GTIIT campus in August!
