Prof. Aaron Ciechanover, Vice Chancellor of GTIIT and the 2004 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, gave a wonderful lecture on September 13rd. Yigal Cohen, PVC and Director General of GTIIT, and LIN Danming, PVC of GTIIT also attended the lecture.
Prof. Ciechanover shared about his scientific research experience. "I was only a B student when I was young. What keeps me running and makes it happen is my passion about science," said Prof. Ciechanover. He encouraged students to follow their heart and do what they really enjoy.
Later, Prof. Ciechanover introduced the latest achievements in his scientific research field and customized medical treatment targeting different body features. Taking the film of "Forever Young" as a primer, he asked the ultimate question for all human being: people are in hot pursuit of longevity, yet how long exactly can we live? He pointed out that the development of biotechnology and medical treatment had promoted the exploration in customized medicines. The application of innovative diagnosis and treatments would be the hope of human health in the future. "Agilina Jolie's genetic tests showed that she had a very high risk of breast cancer, so she chose to remove her breast. Identifying genetic defects and taking preventive measures is equivalent to pre-customized treatment," said Prof. Ciechanover.
In the Q&A section, Prof. Ciechanover answered questions about "how to handle scientific research pressure" and "why Angelina Jolie didn't take other measures to solve the problem". When it comes to how to do scientific research well, Prof. Ciechanover blurted out: you have to find the right person! The lecture drew to a successful conclusion with warm applause.
