GTIIT faculty representatives shared about how to promote local economic development

A 4-day learning workshop with the general theme of "Improve the public administration capabilities of innovation and entrepreneurship service" drew to a successful conclusion recently. PVC of GTIIT, Prof. Lin Danming attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech themed "AI-driven business innovation and industrial development".


The speech began with the China-US trade war. "The world has entered an era of technology-driven and the competition among countries lies in technology," Prof. Lin said.  "The competition situation of AI will have a great effect on China-US relations." Taking his translation experience as an example, he further expressed that, the development of mobile Internet and AI, as well as the changing of working styles among younger generation, will definitely promote the prospects of "unscaled". With regard to the unemployment issue that AI may cause, Prof. Lin said that we should make the most of innovation, compassion, and artificial intelligence to live a better life in the future.

GTIIT faculty representatives also further shared topics like "Israeli Innovation model", "the role of university research to regional innovation", and "Sino-Israel collaboration".

Huang Zengyu, Manager of Research, Innovation, and Graduate Studies office analyzed authoritative statistics such as "2017-2018 Global Competitiveness Report" and "2018 Global Innovation Index Report" through various charts, so that government officials can have a better understanding of the similarities and differences between China and Israel.

Prof. Zhong Ziyi has been worked in USA, Israel and Singapore for more than 21 years before he joined GTIIT. "I met a postdoctoral student who had been doing his research at Technion for 2 years without publishing any paper. Surprisingly, his professor took an inclusive attitude, encouraging him to stick to his dream. Finally, the Postdoctor succeeded in publishing a paper in a core academic journals," Prof. Zhong said. "The great scientific research achievement in Israel today is inseparable from the academic environment of allowing failure and not eager for success." He hoped that some technologies, for example, Catalytic Wet Air Oxidation (CWAO) of organic pollutants can be effectively applied to local environmental protection through the platform of Guangdong Chemical Laboratory.

Assistant Professor Xu Xinpeng shared about his studying and working experience at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Weizmann Institute of Science, and Technion. He pointed out that "Technology Transformation Center" played an important role in identifying and assessing research projects with commercial potential, protecting the intellectual property of the Institute and its scientists, and seeking commercial support.

Finally, Dr. Udi from Israel, shared about his scientific research experience at Nanyang Technological University from a researcher perspective. He pointed out that personality, organizational culture, resource are important factors to successful innovative research. "Singapore has taken a top-down talent cultivation model while Israel chooses a down-top one." He further expressed that GTIIT attaches great importance to exploit the benefits produced by the synergy of education, research and innovation, which will definitely strengthen talent cultivation, promote local economic development and booster Sino-Israel innovation cooperation.
