The 8th Board Meeting of GTIIT was successfully held

The 8th Board Meeting of GTIIT was held on Dec. 20th. Key issues such as building cutting-edged new programs, construction of the South Campus, and support for scientific research, etc. were discussed during the meeting.

Attendees of the meeting include Li Jian'ge, Chancellor of GTIIT; Jiang Hong, Party Secretary and President of Shantou University; Wang Quan, Executive President of Shantou University; Wang Yun, Former Executive Vice Director of Standing Committee of Shantou Municipal People's CongressPeretz Lavie, President of the Technion;Zalman Palmor, Executive Vice President and Director General of the Technion; Paul Feigin, Head of Technion International; Oded Shmueli, Professor of Computer Science of the Technion. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Peretz Lavie, Chairman of GTIIT Board and President of the Technion.

A number of presentations were maded in the meeting, including student academic performance, scientific research, student recruitment, construction of the North Campus laboratories and the South Campus, and development of new academic programs and the affiliated bilingual school.


As a young Sino-foreign cooperative university of science and engineering, GTIIT has made significant progress in various aspects. It has been listed in the "Guangdong High Level University Development Program". Being the youngest one among 18 universities which are listed in the Program, four disciplines of GTIIT, including Materials Science and Engineering, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Environmental Engineering are listed as key disciplines. GTIIT achieved a breakthrough of the National Natural Science Foundation of China this year. Currently, two cohorts of undergraduate students have been enrolled. The first batch of graduate students have started their study at GTIIT. GTIIT will continue to enroll undergraduate students for three programs in 2019: Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology and Food Engineering, and Materials Engineering.


With the accelerated construction of the South Campus and the Provincial key laboratories, GTIIT will open new programs and further expand enrollment thus to make new breakthroughs in teaching and scientific research in the near future.

Other participants of the meeting include Lin Yimin, Vice Mayor of Shantou City; Aaron Ciechanover, Vice Chancellor of GTIIT; Eliezer Shalev, Executive Pro Vice Chancellor of GTIIT; Yigal Cohen and Lin Danming, Pro Vice Chancellors of GTIIT; Adam Shwartz,Senior Executive Vice President of the Technion. Invited department directors from GTIIT, STU, and Shantou Municipal Government also attecnded the meeting.
